Sophomore Aitana Martinez-Montoya scored on a header off a cross from senior Nina Carlomusto in the final minute for a 1-1 draw at Northeast Conference power Central Connecticut State in Bristol, Conn., Sunday evening.
FDU (6-8-2) remained unbeaten in seven NEC matches with its second tie while CCSU, the defending league champion, emerged 6-0-1 in the NEC.
The Knights finished their third match in a week by fighting from behind to knot the score. CCSU, winners of the last four league championships, took the lead with Kristina Kelly scoring in the 29th minute of the match and holding off the Knight’s 9-shot attack behind goalie Caitlin Murphy, who recorded four saves on five FDU shots-on-goal.
Martinez-Montoya, a fierce 5-3 sophomore forward from Spain who was all-NEC and rookie of the year in 2021-2022, triggered four of her five shots in the second half and scored her 10th goal this year, and the 17th of her career.
Malene Nielsen, FDU’s sophomore goalie, finished with 2 saves on 9 shots.
FDU will close out its home schedule with senior day Sunday at noon against Merrimack.
