The men’s and women’s tennis teams faced the St. Francis Terriers as they competed at the USTA National Tennis Center on Tuesday, March 22.
Women’s
The women’s team started strong in the doubles tournament as graduate student Marta Bettinelli and sophomore Gauri Bhagia both won against the St. Francis Terriers. Freshman Namie Isago and junior Alena Kubanova also brought home victorious wins.
In the singles competition, Bhagia defeated Yeva Baziv resulting in straight-sets, 6-0, 6-1.Seniors Aishwarya Gandotra and Smriti Singh, and juniors Alena Kubanova and Sherya Gulia were also triumphant against the St. Francis Terriers. Finally, Bettinelli defeated Valencia in a tiebreaker that ended the singles tournament.
Up next, the women’s team will compete against Sacred Heart on Tuesday, March 29 at 1 p.m.
Men’s
The men’s team competed at their first conference match of their season against the St. Francis Terriers. Although they were defeated, the team had some notable performances.
In doubles play, the Knights received a win for the team as graduate student Moric Budinszky and freshman Justas Trainauskas tied the doubles match.
In the singles match, sophomore Arjun Sriram was the only player to bring home a win for the Knights, resulting in a 6-3, 6-3 score.
Up next, the men’s team will face Sacred Heart at 1p.m. on Tuesday, March 29 at home. The match today against Wagner was postponed due to rain.
