The Knights came out on a mission to keep their season alive against the Blue Devils but lost 67-66.

FDU was in the driver’s seat for most of the contest as they would lead by as many as 15 points in the second half. Unfortunately, late in the game they struggled to stop the Blue Devils from stampeding their way back into the game, giving up a 10-3 run that brought CCSU back within one possession and that would spell the end of FDU’s season.

The offensive performance overall was very solid for FDU as they shot 24-53 (45.3 %) from the floor and 7-21 (33.3%) from long range. They got to the free-throw line 15 times and sank 11 of those attempts (73.3 %) The Knights also saw five of their players hit the double digit scoring mark, led by a 16 point performance from Brandon Rush. Anquan Hill would also put up 12 points, followed by 11 point performances from John Square Jr., Almonor Ansley and Berry Oscar.

The Blue Devils finished 23-49 (46.9 %) overall and 9-22 (40.9%) from three. They also hit 12 of their 14 free throw attempts (85.7%), with two of those coming from Nigel Scantleberry in the clutch to put his team in front by one with a second remaining in the game.

Scantleberry led the effort for his squad with 19 points, six rebounds and five assists. Trenton McLaughlin was next in line with 14 points on 4-6 shooting from three, followed by a 13 point performance from Andre Snoody.

Although the season may not have ended how Greg Herenda and the Knights intended, there are still a lot of bright spots to take away from this season. With a young group of hungry players like John Square Jr., Anquan Hill, Ansley Almonor, Ibrahim Watara, Oscar Berry and more, this season laid a solid foundation for the future of the FDU men’s basketball program. After losing this playoff game in such a devastating fashion, everyone in the NEC can be sure that the Knights won’t forget this feeling and will have a massive chip on their shoulder heading into the next year.
