The women’s basketball team can now call themselves regular season champions after they were able to defeat LIU by a score of 63-50 on Saturday afternoon.
The Knights jumped out to a 12-point lead in the second quarter of the game and never looked back as they finished shooting 23-50 (46.0 %) overall, 5-18 (27.8 %) from three and 12-15 (80%) from the free-throw line.
Devyn Scott and Madison Stanley were able to lead the charge for their squad, finishing with 14 points each and a combined 11 rebounds and six assists. Aniya Bell and Chloe Wilson also provided a nice spark as they combined for 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Right now, the Knights seem primed for a deep postseason run as we near the NEC tournament. Everyone looks to have hit their stride at the perfect time with names like Rachael Niles, Aniya Bell, Devyn Scott, Chloe Wilson and star player Madison Stanley each having notable performances in recent games.
FDU has even more reliable depth behind these players with the likes of Dahomee Forgues, Madeline Selvaggi, Celia Carbonell and Sierra DeAngelo – all of whom have proved they are capable of stepping up in big moments this season.
With home court advantage now locked up throughout the playoffs, FDU will look to carry momentum as they have done all season and make the dream of an NEC championship a reality.
Although a regular season championship is set in stone for the Knights, they will still look to finish strong heading into the postseason as they will have one last regular season game against Sacred Heart on March 3 at 7 p.m.
