LIVE BLOG: Women’s Basketball vs Wagner 2/24

The Knights will have their chance to clinch the regular season in their next matchup when they take on LIU at home on Feb. 26 at 2 p.m.

Game Summary: 

It appears as though the Knights will have to wait just a little bit longer to hold the title of regular season champions. The magic number still sits at one for the right to hold home court advantage through the NEC tournament.

Wagner didn’t shoot particularly well but came up with big buckets down the stretch to put FDU away. They finished 27-63 (42.9%) and 3-12 (25%) from deep. They were also able to hit six of their seven free throw attempts (85.7%) 

The Knights finished the game shooting 25-53 overall (47.2 %) but struggled from three going just 3-10 (30%) FDU would also leave ten crucial points at the line as they finished just 6-16 (37.5%) 

Katrice Jackson came up big for Wagner as she finished with a season high 14 points for her squad. ​​Lina Loceniece also came up big for the Seahawks as she scored 12 points on 3-7 shooting from three including the big shot to put her team up six with under 30 seconds left in the game. Zhaneia Thybulle and Kem Nwabudu also both turned in solid ten point performances.

Aniya Bell finished with a strong 17 point performance for FDU on 7-11 shooting and also pulled down eight rebounds. Devyn Scott was the only other Knight to finish in double digits as she scored ten points. Madison Stanley also finished with nine points followed by eight points each from Madeline Selvaggi and Dahomee Forgues. 

FDU Falls To Wagner 63-59

8:45 p.m. 

Aniya Bell hits a three as the clock expires but FDU will lose this game by a score of 63-59.

8:44 p.m.

Loceniece goes 1-2 from the FT line.

8:40 p.m. 

Loceniece hits a big three to put Wagner up by six with 0:28 seconds to go. 

8:39 p.m. 

With 0:49 seconds to go FDU trails 59-56.

8:38 p.m.

 Scott calmly knocks down a pair of free throws to make it a one possession game. 

8:35 p.m. 

Forgues turns it over and FDU is running out of time. 

Nwabudu hits two clutch free throws with 1:43 left in the game to put Wagner up by five. 

8:32 p.m. 

Everybody has the shooting touch for Wagner as Thybulle’s jumper falls. 

Forgues responds with a layup and it is 55-54 with 2:50 to go.

Loceniece answers as we come down the stretch in the fourth quarter.

8:31 p.m. 

Devyn Scott’s turnaround jumper falls and it’s back to a one-point game.

8:30 p.m. 

Nwabudu knocks down a jumper again to make it 53-30 for Wagner.

8:29 p.m. 

Bell finishes strong inside. She has 14 points to lead the Knights. 

8:28 p.m. 

Nwabudu lays it up to halt FDU’s momentum momentarily.

8:27 p.m.

 Stanley makes back to back threes for the Knights and it is a 1-point game.

8:25 p.m. 

Aniya Bell hits a big three to cut it to four with 6:53 remaining.

8:22 p.m.

Stanley stops the run with a layup as FDU still trails 49-42.

8:21 p.m. 

Alex Cowan knocks down the free throw and extends the Wagner lead to nine. 

8:20 p.m. 

Cowan makes it an eight point lead now with 8:36 remaining in the game.

8:17 p.m. 

Thybulle drills another jumper to open the fourth quarter and Wagner leads 46-40.

8:16 p.m. 

Thybulle scores at the buzzer and Wagner takes a 44-40 lead into the fourth quarter. 

Scott answers with a layup.

8:14 p.m. 

Grava’s layup is good with 0:52 seconds left in the quarter.

8:12 p.m.

Sierra DeAngelo gets her first shot of the night to fall and makes it 40-38.

8:11 p.m. 

Thybulle gets her driving layup to go and Wagner extends the lead to four with 3:09 left in the third quarter.

8:05 p.m. 

Forgues drives all the way to the basket and finishes. It is now a one possession game for the Knights with 4:35 to play.

8:02 p.m. 

Selvaggi cuts the Wagner lead to four and forces a timeout.

8:01 p.m. 

Alex Cohen sinks two free throws for Wagner. 

8:00 p.m. 

Aniya Bell scores her ninth point of the night to make it 36-32 as FDU still trails with 7:11 to go in the third quarter.

7:58 p.m. 

Jackson scores again giving her 14 points in the game. 

7:57 p.m. 

Scott goes 1-2 from the free throw line for the Knights. 

Heyward follows with a layup to put Wagner up 34-29 just under a minute into the second half.

7:56 p.m.

Jackson picks up right where she left off in the first half as she knocks down her jumpshot.

Halftime Update: 

Before the long end of the half stoppage, the game was fast paced and back and forth and both teams will look to continue the efficient offensive production heading into the second half.

The Knights finished the half shooting 13-30 (43.3%) overall and 0-3 from the 3-point line. They also attempted seven free throws and made three (42.9%) 

Wagner got 14 of their 31 attempts to fall overall (45.2%) and went 2-7 from beyond the 3-point arc (28.6%). The Seahawks would not attempt a free throw in the half. 

For FDU, Chloe Wilson led the way in scoring with eight points followed by seven points from Aniya Bell. Madison Stanley and Dahomee Forgues also combined to contribute eight points. 

The Seahawks were led in scoring by Katrice Jackson who has her season high in points with ten so far. Lina Loceniece is the second leading scorer with six points on two made threes followed by four points each from Drayah Heyward and Emilija Krista Grava.

There was also a foul ruled in favor of FDU. Selvaggi goes 1-2 from the free throw line and now the second quarter comes to a close with FDU still behind 30-29.

After review Chloe Wilson’s shot has been ruled a made basket and the score has been adjusted to 30-28.

7:33 p.m. 

At the half FDU trails Wagner 30-26.

7:31 p.m.

Wilson scores again, this time on a jumper and FDU pulls within four points.

7:30 p.m.

Jackson converts again and she leads all scorers with ten points. 

Wilson stops the Wagner run with a layup. 

7:29 p.m. 

Loceniece connects on her second straight three and it is now a 28-22 advantage for Wagner.

7:28 p.m. 

Out of the timeout, Jackson extends the Wagner lead to three. 

7:27 p.m.

 So far there have been eight lead changes in tonight’s contest.

7:25 p.m. 

Lina Loceniece drains a three off the bench for Wagner and there is yet another lead change.

7:24 p.m.

Chloe Wilson drives and finishes and the Knights take a 2-point lead.

Nwabudu’s layup goes down and the game is tied at 20 with 7:43 to go.

7:22 p.m.

 Bell was fouled on the previous attempt and knocked down her and-one free throw.

7:21 p.m.

Aniya Bell responds with a layup for the Knights. She now has six points.

7:20 p.m.

Heyward drives again and finishes for her second straight field goal and Wagner now holds the 18-17 lead. 

7:19 p.m.

Drayah Heyward immediately follows with a layup in traffic.

Forgues gets her second shot attempt to go to open the second quarter.

7:17 p.m.

After some back and forth action the Knights end the first quarter of play with a one-point lead. 

7:16 p.m.

Stanley’s jumper goes down and the Knights lead 15-14. 

7:15 p.m. 

Kem Nwabudu gets her first shot of the night to fall and Wagner takes control once again. 

7:14 p.m.

Grava gets another jumper to fall.

7:13 p.m. 

Dahomee Forgues drains a jumper after checking in off the bench for FDU.

7:12 p.m. 

Devyn Scott answers right back and FDU takes an 11–10 lead with 2:49 remaining in the first quarter. 

7:11 p.m. 

Emilijia Krista Grava gets the lead right back for Wagner with a layup. 

The Knights have quickly recovered after falling behind 6-0. They have gone on a 9-2 run since then to take the lead. 

7:10 p.m.

Aniya Bell follows with a quick layup of her own and FDU can take the lead at the next possession.

7:09 p.m. 

Madison Stanley brings the game to within three points for the Knights as she converts on her layup attempt.

7:08 p.m. 

Devyn Scott gets to the free throw line and goes 1-2.

7:08 p.m. 

Zhaneia Thybulle immediately answers with a jumper of her own. Knights trail 8-2 with 6:06 to go in the first quarter. 

7:07 p.m.

Aniya Bell finally gets FDU on the board with her jumper. 

7:06 p.m.

Jackson is on fire to start as she gets her third basket in a row. She has all of Wagner’s six points.

Jackson gets another layup to fall and its 4-0 Wagner just under 3 minutes into the game.

Katrice Jackson gets Wagner started with a layup.

Pregame Update: 

Tonight the Knights will only have one thing on their mind and that is clinching home court advantage throughout the NEC tournament. Coming off a solid win against Bryant FDU holds a two game winning streak and will look for their most important victory of the season tonight against Wagner.
