RECAP: Knights Held to Lowest Point Total of the Season Against Merrimack

The Knights were unable to pick up what would’ve been a momentum shifting victory in the season in their road matchup against Merrimack. FDU produced their lowest point total of the season in the 64-44 loss.

The game was actually closely contested, with FDU even holding a 32-29 lead four minutes into the second half. The turning point would come at the 15:43 mark in the half as Merrimack quickly tied the game and stunned the Knights 21-2 run. They eventually fell behind by as many as 23.

It was another struggle to produce offense efficiently for FDU as they finished with 17 made field goals in 59 attempts overall (28.8%) and connected on just six of their 19 shots from behind the three point arc. They would also only attempt seven free throws for the entire game and make four (57.1%).

As for Merrimack, they fared a little bit better in their offensive game plan finishing 25-55 (45.5%) overall and 7-22 (31.8%) from deep. The Warriors got to line four more times than the Knights to finish 7-11 (63.6%).

Anquan Hill was the only Knight to top double digits as he ended the game with 11 points and seven rebounds. Sebastien Lamaute followed with nine points and made both of his three point attempts. Oscar Berry and John Square Jr. also combined for 15 points but shot just 3-9 and 2-8 respectively. It should also be noted that two of FDU’s heaviest offensive hitters, Devon Dunn and Brandon Rush finished with a combined two points on eight shots for the night.

Jordan Minor came up big for the Warriors, putting up 20 points on the offensive end and four big blocks on the defensive end. Ziggy Reid also totaled 17 points and eight total rebounds followed by an impressive all around performance from Malik Edmead with ten points, six assists, and four rebounds.

With just three games remaining in the season the Knights will need to push for crucial wins in order to put themselves in position for the playoffs. They currently share a 4-11 record with Saint Francis U and Sacred Heart for the eighth spot and sit a game behind Central Connecticut for the seventh spot.

FDU will have the opportunity to score a statement victory and start their potential playoff push when they face off against a tough, second place Bryant Bulldogs team in their next game. This matchup will take place on Feb. 19 at 1 p.m.
