The craze of sports betting and hearing people make huge sums of cash is all over right now with the Super Bowl coming up, but what should you be looking at when placing your bets?
There are two betting websites people in the sports betting community favor over all the others since sports betting was legalized in New Jersey, in 2018.
I use both FanDuel Sportsbook and DraftKings, but prefer to use Fanduel because it’s user friendly.
By far the biggest promotion for Super Bowl Sunday is that DraftKings is running the chance at one million dollars. DraftKings is offering a free promotion that only requires the user to opt in for a chance at one million dollars. The promotion will pick 10 people one hour before the Super Bowl starts and give them a million dollars in a credit that must be used on either the moneyline (Rams or Bengals to win the game), the Spread (Rams to win by 5 or Bengals to lose by less than 5 or win), or the over/under (Total game points to be either over 49 or under 49).
I feel that the Rams have the upper hand, which would explain why they are the -200 favorite over the Bengals. They have a strong defensive line led by eight-time pro bowler Aaron Donald. That line is followed up by a strong linebacker core consisting of another eight-time pro bowler Von Miller.
In a recent playoff game against the Tennessee Titans, Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals was sacked nine times, and now he faces the defense of the Rams, which they are known for. For this reason, my bet has to be on the Rams for this Super Bowl.
The betting doesn’t stop there as both FanDuel and DraftKings have a number of promotions going on.
FanDuel has a same game parlay created by sports personality Bill Simmons that consists of Rams to win, Cooper Kupp to have 80 plus receiving yards, Odell Beckham Jr. to have 70+ receiving yards and Odell Beckham Jr. to score a touchdown at any point through the game.
FanDuel has an edge on all sports betting vendors because of the same game parlay feature, which allows users to combine multiple bets within one game. Other sportsbooks, such as DraftKings, have caught up with the technological advancements but FanDuel has perservieved with the new same game parlay plus. This allows users to combine multiple bets from one game and add them into a betslip with multiple bets from another.
FanDuel is also running a promotion where all users have a risk free same game parlay. This means that all FanDuel sportsbook users can create a same game parlay of any dollar amount, where even if it loses, FanDuel will give the user a max of $20 back in site credit.
Both FanDuel and DraftKings are running a promotion of 56/1 odds for new users’ first bet to be on the Super Bowl. This means that both platforms are offering $280 if the user bets $5 on the correct winner of the Super Bowl. However, one stipulation is that it must be the users first bet after signing up and depositing.
DraftKings is offering a $10 risk free same game parlay of the users choosing. They have also been boosting the odds for certain player props to happen. This means that if the bet was to pay out -100 or half of the deposit, and the bet was boosted to +100, then it would pay out double even if it was more likely to happen than the payout amount.
Every night in the week leading up to the Super Bowl, DraftKings has been announcing these boosts at 6p.m. eastern and only leaving them open until 9p.m. eastern. DraftKings has also boosted the odds of Ja’marr Chase to have over 3.5 rushing yards to +120 when it originally sat at -125.
The world of sports betting can seem complicated, but once you understand the odds and setting up your bet slip it becomes a lot easier.
Please do not try to place bets if you are under 21 years of age or if you struggle with a gambling addiction.
