LIVE BLOG: Women’s Basketball vs. Mount St. Mary’s 1/27

The Knights continue to roll with a 64-56 comeback victory against Mount St. Mary’s.

Game Summary:

With tonight’s win, FDU has now won five straight games and holds the number one spot in the NEC with an 8-1 record. Madison Stanley is making a solid case for NEC player of the year as she now has three consecutive 20-point performances and has put up a career-high 25 points in two of those games. The Knights are looking like a powerhouse in the NEC and now will look to make it six straight wins in a matchup against Central Connecticut State on Jan. 30 at 1 p.m.

For The Mount, Michaela Harrison finished leading the team with a strong 15-point performance. Isabella Hunt and Kendall Bresee also contributed 11 points each.

Madison Stanley put up another monster performance for her squad as she tied her career-high 25 points and added nine rebounds and a big time block. Chloe Wilson followed with another double digit scoring effort as she put up 15 points, and Aniya Bell and Devyn Scott both combined for 15 points as well. 

Mount St. Mary’s would end up finishing just 20-52 (38.5%) as they struggled to compete against some intense second-half defense from FDU. They also made just six of their 19 three point attempts (31.6%) and finished 10-13 (76.9%) from the free throw line.

As a team, the Knights finished shooting 22-51 (43.1%) from the floor and also went 4-10 (40%) from the three point line. They also got to the line 17 times and made 16 of those attempts (94.1%)

FDU came away with a huge victory as they rallied from down ten points to eventually win the game by eight.

With 0:41 seconds remaining, FDU leads 60-54 after the 8-0 run from Madison Stanley.

Stanley nearly gets the and-one opportunity to fall but instead knocks down two free throws to tie her career-high 25 points.

Stanley buries another clutch three for the Knights. They are closing in on their fifth straight victory.

 Stanley takes the lead right back with a three as the teams are going back and forth. With that three, Stanley also gives herself her third consecutive 20-point game.

 Agentowicz scores on the layup to give Mount St. Mary’s the lead once again.

Aniya Bell ties the game up off the assist from Madison Stanley.

Kendall Bresse knocks down the jumper to put Mount St. Mary’s up by two with 4:07 remaining.

Hunt misses on the free throw that would have put The Mount up by one.

Hunt ties the game on a follow-up to her own miss and is also awarded the foul.

FDU leads 50-48 with 6:35 to go in the game.

Chloe Wilson follows up the Forgues bucket with a layup of her own. She has 15 points. 

Dahomee Forgues comes up with her first basket of the night and gives the Knights the two-point lead.

Heading into the fourth, the game is knotted up 46-46.

Madison Stanley ties the game at 46 with her two made free throws.

Kendall Bresee answers and takes the lead right back with a three-pointer.

Stanley gets another layup to go. The Knights have come all the way back from being down 14 in the first half to take the one-point lead in the third.

Stanley brings the Knights within one point once again with 2:49 remaining in the third quarter.

Following the 8-3 run The Mount has responded with a 6-2 run to put them back up by six with 6:12 left in the quarter. 

6:07 p.m.

FDU starts off the second half on an 8-3 run to bring the game within one for the Knights.

Halftime Update:

After going down by as many as 14 points in the first half of action FDU managed to get the game back within striking distance. 

Mount St. Mary’s shot 11-26 (42.3%) in the first half overall. After going 10-16 in the first quarter, FDU really picked up the intensity and forced Mount St. Mary’s to shoot just 1-10 in the second quarter. Additionally, The Mount went 3-10 from three (30%) and also shot 6-8 (75%) from the free-throw line.

FDU shot 10-24 (41.7%) overall in the first half. The school shot 1-5 (20%) from three, a decent number considering the few shots they took. FDU is looking great from the free-throw line, putting up a consistent 4-5 (80%).

Isabella Hunt led Mount St. Mary’s in scoring in the first half with eight points. Kendall Bresee is the second leading scorer with seven points. Michaela Harrison and Jada Lee also combined for ten points. 

Madison Stanley led FDU in scoring in the first half with six points, followed by Chloe Wilson who scored 5 points on her end.

At the half, Mount St. Mary’s leads FDU 31-25.

5:45 p.m.

FDU’s defense has made their presence felt in the second quarter.

5:44 p.m.

Stanley makes it an 8-0 run for FDU with her jumper. The game is now 31-25.

5:43 p.m. 

Selvaggi gets another layup to go. With 2:33 remaining in the half FDU has got the Mount St. Mary’s lead back to single digits.

Selvaggi gets FDU within ten points with the crossover and the layup.

Stanley ends the scoreless drought for FDU with her layup. FDU still trails 31-19.
