FDU Women’s Fencing Team Opens the 2021-22 Season at Temple Opening

The FDU women’s fencing team started the 2021-22 season at the Temple Open on Saturday, Oct. 23.  The Knights were led by graduate student Shea Sanders with high placements in the foil consolation. 

Sanders garnered three wins in the first two preliminary rounds and placed 49th seed in the direct elimination.  In the preliminary rounds, Sanders collected a record of 3-5 before being eliminated by Northwestern’s Rowan Park in the 64th round.  Sanders was followed by freshmen Dominique Greaux-Gist and Jordana Greaux-Gist, who rose to 68th place and 81st place in the direct elimination round.  

In the eppe, the Knights had sophomore Ayah Ibrahim succeed in advancing in both preliminary rounds and had the final results of junior Gabriela Cruz, gaining a 3-1 record for the consolation play. The Knights concluded the play with senior Jessica Lopez.

The final play in saber had improving accomplishments from freshman Emily Bone, who rounded out the direct elimination play while freshman Avery LaRusso gained a 2-3 record that finished 12th in overall pool results.

The Knights will continue their season in the Drew Rangers Invitational in Madison, N.J. on Oct. 31.
