The Knights won against Saint Francis University (Pa.) by a score of 2-0 on Thursday, Sept. 30 at University Stadium in Teaneck. The win puts FDU at fourth in the Northeast Conference.
Diego Arribas made the first shot attempt at minute 19 in the first half. This set up the Knights for an unexpected goal when the ball found its way into the box. The crowd was small, yet you could hear yells and cheers that echoed throughout the field when Jeremy Opong scored off an assist from Ideal Shefqeti to give FDU an early 1-0 lead.
Shefqeti scored another goal for the Knights off an assist from sophomore Tony Gomez, with just 4 minutes left in the second half of the match.
Several yellow cards were given out during the game. The Knights received 2 and The Red Flash received 3.
The game ran deeper than the score, with displays of sportsmanship and compassion when FDU’s Stefano Pesce received a yellow card against The Red Flash’s Simon Luchinger. As Arribas made his way back to center field where the incident occured, he extended his hand to Luchinger and helped him back up to his feet.
The Knights are currently 3-5-2 overall and 1-0-1 in NEC play where they are ranked fourth in the conference.
The Knights will look to get back in action against Merrimack in North Andover, Massachusetts on Oct. 3 at 2 p.m.
