New Jersey Will ‘Definitely Continue to Open Up’ if COVID-19 Numbers Keep Improving

N.J. Gov. Phil Murphy said that New Jersey’s COVID-19 numbers are moving “in the right direction” and that he will continue to reopen the state in increments if those figures keep improving, according to NJ.com.

“We’re gonna definitely continue to open up, there’s no question about it,” Murphy said to NJ.com.

New Jersey’s stores are still limited to 50% capacity, while indoor dining is limited to 35%. Outdoor gatherings are limited to 200 people, while indoor gatherings are limited to 25. Masks are required indoors and outdoors in public across the state, when social distancing is not possible, NJ.com continues.

New Jersey’s latest seven-day average for new positive coronavirus tests is 3,096 down 2% from a week ago and 5% from a month ago. Hospitalizations for the virus dropped for six straight days, before they went up Monday night to 2,108 patients across the state, according to NJ.com.

2.5 million people have been fully vaccinated in the state — about 36% of the state’s 6.9 million adults. The state is about 53% of the way to its goal of fully vaccinating 70% of its eligible adult population which is about 4.7 million people by the end of June, NJ.com continues.

This reopening plan is a positive look for the return to mostly in person classes and activities this fall, at FDU.
