Windy conditions and low humidity temperatures are causing brush fires around the state.

As of Sunday afternoon, nearly a dozen brush fires were reported, including Carney’s Point, Lyndhurst, Hillsborough and Lakewood, reported NJ.com

The Lakewood fire closed the parkway in both directions from Exit 82 to Exit 91 and prompted the evacuation of several homes and nearby stores.

No one was injured in the blaze.

In Lyndhurst, 911 calls for smoke and flames at the end of Valley Brook Avenue began around 3:30 p.m., continued NJ.com. Other large fires have been reported in Alexandria, Hamilton and Hammonton.

The National Weather Service advises residents to avoid outdoor burning, be careful with equipment that may cause sparks, and to not “casually” discard cigarettes or matches.

Stay safe out there, Knights.
