LIVE BLOG: Women’s Basketball Against Mount Saint Mary’s

FDU falls to the Mountaineers 77-62 in the NEC Semi-Finals. No. 1 seed Mount St. Mary’s will advance to play Wagner in the NEC Championship. 

In the fourth quarter, FDU shot 5-11 (45.5%) from the field, 1-5 (20%) from three, and 4-8 (50%) from the free-throw line as the Mountaineers shot 7-17 (41.2%) from the field, 2-3 (66.7%) from three, and 4-4 (100%) from the free-throw line.

In total, FDU shot 22-50 (44%) from the field, 8-21 (38.1%) from three, and 10-14 (71.4%) from the free-throw line as the Mountaineers shot 28-76 (36.8%) from the field, 8-28 (28.6%) from three, and 13-13 (100%) from the free-throw line. 

Lee recorded a double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 13 rebounds for the Mountaineers with Taylor scoring 17, Harrison scoring 11, and Hunt adding 10. 

DeAngelo scored 20 points in the loss while Stanley recorded a double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Conklin also added 11 points for the Knights.

Harrison makes both free throws as DeAngelo makes the jumper to cut the Mountaineers lead to 77-62 with two seconds to go in the game.

8:49 p.m.

DeAngelo gets the jump hook to go, but it is too little too late for the Knights as they trail 75-60 with 40 seconds remaining.

8:47 p.m.

Harrison hits two free throws, making it 75-58 with 48 seconds left. She has nine points for the Mountaineers.

8:43 p.m.

Harrison hits the corner three to make it 73-58 Mountaineers with two minutes remaining.

8:41 p.m.

Graham makes one free throw to cut the Mountaineers lead to 70-58 with 3:12 to go in the game.

With the shot clock running down once again, Taylor knocks down the three off the assist by Harrison. The Mountaineers lead 70-57 with 3:47 left.

8:36 p.m.

Conklin lets it fly from three and sinks it off the find by Scott. That shot cuts FDU’s deficit back down to 10 with 4:36 to go. She has 11 points for the Knights.

8:35 p.m.

Taylor’s jumper falls with the shot clock expiring to push the Mountaineers lead to 67-54 with 5:39 left in the fourth quarter of play. She has 14 points.

DeAngelo makes one free throw to cut the Mountaineers lead to 65-54 with 5:22 to go in the game.

8:33 p.m.

Lee gets it to fall yet again as she continues to dominate inside the paint. The bucket puts the Mountaineers up 65-53 with 6:51 remaining.

8:32 p.m.

Bresee lays it in to extend the Mountaineers lead to 63-53 with seven minutes to go in the game.

Crystian splits one of two from the stripe, but Stanley grabs the offensive rebound and hits the jumper. The Knights trail the Mountaineers 61-53 with 7:49 to go. Stanley has 11 points for FDU.

8:30 p.m.

Lee gathers the loose ball and puts back up and in. She has 17 points for the Mountaineers as they lead 61-50 with 8:02 left in the fourth quarter.

8:28 p.m.

Jessica Tomasetti makes the layup to extend the Mountaineers lead to 59-50 with 8:47 to go in the game. 

Scott splits a pair of free throws, but cuts into the Mountaineers lead to make it 57-50 with 9:22 remaining.

8:27 p.m.

Stanley makes the tough hook shot to cut the Mountaineers lead to 57-49 with 9:22 to go in the game.

The Knights trail the Mountaineers 57-47 at the end of three quarters of play. After a back and forth first half, Mount St. Mary’s outscored FDU 21-9 in the third quarter. 

FDU shot 3-11 (27.3%) from the field, 2-7 (28.6%) from three, and 1-1 (100%) from the free-throw line as the Mountaineers shot 8-17 (47.1%) from the field, 3-9 (33.3%) from three, and 2-2 (100%) from the free-throw line.

DeAngelo has 15 points for the Knights with Conklin adding eight.

Lee has led the way for Mountaineers with 15 points with Taylor scoring 12 and Hunt scoring 10.

Bresee finds Lee down low as she lays it in to extend the Mountaineers lead to 57-47 at the end of the third quarter.

DeAngelo drills the top of the key three to cut the Mountaineers lead to 55-47 with 25 seconds to go in the quarter. 

Stanley gets the basket to go and is fouled. She hits from the free-throw line to complete the three-point play, but FDU still trails 55-44 with 1:05 remaining in the third quarter.

Birkhead nails the jumper to extend the Mountaineers lead to 55-41 with 1:05 to go in the quarter.

8:21 p.m.

Lee gets the tough layup to go to extend the Mountaineers lead to 53-41 with 1:32 to go in the quarter.

8:20 p.m.

Conklin fouls Bridget Birkhead who hits both free throws to push the Mountaineers lead up to 51-41 with 3:15 left in the quarter. The Knights have been outscored 15-3 in this third quarter.

Hunt finds Taylor who drains a three to extend the Mountaineers lead to 49-41 with 6:20 remaining in the third quarter of play. Taylor has 12 points.

Harrison makes the jumper to extend the Mountaineers lead to 46-41 with 6:48 to go in the quarter.

FDU heads into the locker room with a 38-36 lead over Mount St. Mary’s in this NEC Semi-Finals matchup.

In total, FDU shot 14-28 (50%) from the field, 5-9 (55.6%) from three, and 5-5 (100%) from the free-throw line as the Mountaineers shot 13-42 (31%) from the field, 3-16 (18.8%) from three, and 7-7 (100%) from the free-throw line. 

DeAngelo led all scorers with 12 points for the Knights while Conklin scored eight points off the bench and Graham added seven. 

Hunt has led the way for the Mountaineers with 10 points as Taylor and Lee each added nine.

7:46 p.m.

DeAngelo hits the baseline jumper with no time on the clock to give the Knights a 38-36 lead going into the half.

7:45 p.m.

Taylor is fouled by Crystian with 56 seconds remaining in the first half. She hits both from the stripe to tie the game at 36.

7:44 p.m.

Stanley finds Crystian cutting backdoor who lays it in to put FDU back in the lead at 36-34 with 1:16 left in the half.

7:42 p.m.

Hunt gets the layup to go to tie the game at 34 with 1:37 to go in the half. 

Scott hits the three off the find by Stanley. That shot gives the Knights the lead back at 34-32 with 1:56 remaining in the first half.

7:41 p.m.

Bresee drills the top of the key three to give the Mountaineers a 32-31 lead with 2:08 to go in the half.

7:40 p.m.

Conklin drills the three to give FDU a 31-29 lead with 2:56 to go in the half.

Taylor’s layup is good to give the Mountaineers a 29-28 lead with 3:22 left in the first half. She has seven points for the Mountaineers.

7:38 p.m.

DeAngelo finds Graham in the corner who knocks down the three. Graham has scored the last five points for the Knights as they push their lead back up to 28-22 with 4:44 remaining in the first half.

Hunt lays it in as Taylor drills the three on the next possession to cut the FDU lead to 28-27 with 3:55 to go in the half.

7:37 p.m.

Graham gets the runner to go to extend the FDU lead to 25-22 with 5:16 to go in the half.

Lee gets the offensive rebound off her own miss and banks it in, plus the foul. She knocks down the free throw to complete the three-point play as the Mountaineers are on a 9-0 run and are within one with 5:48 left in the first half of play.

7:29 p.m.

Taylor steps back and hits the fadeaway jumper. That cuts the Knights’ lead down to 23-19 with 7:46 remaining in the half.

7:28 p.m.

Lee makes both free throws to cut the FDU lead to 23-17 with 8:41 to go in the half.

Lee opens up the scoring in the second quarter after a four minute scoring drought for the Mountaineers. The Knights lead 23-15 with 9:16 to go in the first half. 

7:25 p.m.

FDU ends the first quarter on a 12-0 run and a 23-13 lead going into the second quarter.

DeAngelo led the way for the Knights with 10 points with Conklin adding five points off the bench.

Hunt had six points for the Mountaineers.

Fouled called, it is on Agentowic, sending Stanley to the free-throw line where she hits both to extend the Knights lead to 23-13 with ten seconds remaining in the quarter.

7:21 p.m.

DeAngelo knocks down a pair from the stripe to push FDU’s lead up to 21-13 with a minute to play in the first quarter.

7:20 p.m.

Conklin hits a jumper to extend the Knights’ lead to 19-13. She has scored the last five points for FDU as they are on an 8-0 run.

7:18 p.m.

Abby Conklin drills the three to extend the FDU lead to 17-13 to extend the FDU lead to 17-13 with 1:37 to go in the quarter.

7:17 p.m.

DeAngelo gets the layup to go and draws the foul to head to the free-throw line. DeAngelo hits the free throw to convert the three-point play and give the Knights a 14-13 lead with 2:57 to go in the quarter. She has eight points.

Hunt puts the Mountaineers back in front off the assist by Harrison to make it 13-11 Mountaineers with 3:23 remaining in the first quarter.

Harrison and Crystian exchange layups as the game is tied at 11 with 3:44 to go in the quarter.

DeAngelo layup falls to tie the game at nine with 4:40 left in the first quarter. She has five early points for the Knights.

Hunt lays it in again as Stanley’s layup is good to cut the Mountaineers lead to 9-7 with 5:05 to go in the quarter.

Isabella Hunt lays it in to extend the Mountaineers lead to 7-5 with 6:14 to go in the quarter.

The Knights are short handed tonight due to a positive COVID-19 case in the tier 1 personnel. There are only seven available players and they will be without head coach Angelika Szumilo.

Agentowicz makes a three as Graham makes the jumper on the other end to tie the game at five with 6:45 to go in the quarter.

DeAngelo makes the three to give FDU a 3-2 lead with 7:12 to go in the quarter.

FDU finished the season 16-7 overall, 12-6 in the NEC while Mount Saint Mary’s finished 15-6, 14-4 in the NEC.

The 2020-2021 NEC standings finished as follows

FDU senior forward Madison Stanley was named to first-team All-NEC after averaging 13.7 PPG this year. Sophomore guard/forward Maria Roters earned second-team All-NEC after averaging 11.0 PPG this season as well. Freshman forward Chloe Wilson earned All-NEC rookie team after averaging 6.8 PPG this season with Freshman guard Devyn Scott who also was All-NEC rookie team after averaging 5.0 PPG this season as well. 

Mount Saint Mary’s is led by the NEC Coach of the Year in Maria Marchesano and Mount Saint Mary’s redshirt senior guard/forward Kendall Bresee who won the NEC Women’s Basketball Player of the Year award, NEC Women’s Defensive Player of the Year award, and was named to first team All NEC after averaging 14.6 PPG this season.

Junior guard Michaela Harrison was named to second team All-NEC after averaging 12.6 PPG this season. Redshirt sophomore guard Aryna Taylor was named to third team All-NEC after averaging 11.3 PPG this season as well. Freshman guard Jessica Tomasetti was named to the All-NEC rookie team after averaging 3.9 PPG this season.
