LIVE BLOG: FDU Men’s Basketball Against Sacred Heart, Game 2

9:10 p.m.

FDU drops the second round-robin game and the last game of the season as they fall to SHU 70-64. 

FDU’s final record of the season is 9-15, 8-10 NEC as SHU improves to 9-8, 9-7.

FDU shot 13-32 (40.6%) from the field, 3-13 (23.1%) from three, and 9-12 (75%) from the free-throw line. SHU shot 12-31 (38.7%) from the field, 2-12 (16.6%) from three, and 9-12 (75%) from the free-throw line in the second half. 

In total, FDU shot 22-59 (37.3%) from the field, 6-23 (26.1%) from three  and 14-17 (82.4%) from the free-throw line as SHU shot 23-58 (39.7%) from the field, 8-25 (32%) from three and 16-20 (80%) from the free-throw line.

Rush had 20 points for the Knights as Powell added 12 points and Jenkins added 10 points. Williams had 9 points and 10 rebounds as well. Clarke led SHU with 16 points as Sixsmith added 13 points off the bench. Thomas had 12 points as Watson had 10 points. Dutreil added 8 points and 10 rebounds as well.

Jenkins finished the season with 17.1 PPG as Williams had 14.2 PPG, and Rush had 14.1 PPG.

FDU drops the second round-robin game and the last game of the season as they fall to SHU 80-74. 

8:58 p.m.

FDU goes for the trap, but a foul is called on Rush. Clarke heads to the free-throw line and hits a pair to extend the SHU lead to 68-64 with 14 seconds remaining.

8:57 p.m.

Watson goes up and under to get the reverse layup to fall. Williams answers at the other end, grabbing the offensive rebound and putting it in. FDU trails 66-64 with 16 seconds left.

8:54 p.m.

Clarke fouls Square, but he can’t convert on the front end of the one-and-one. The Pioneers stay in front 64-62 with 51 seconds remaining.

8:52 p.m.

Rush drills the three to cut the SHU lead to 64-62 with 1:31 to go in the game. He leads all scorers with 20 points.

8:51 p.m.

Clarke gets it to fall once again, pushing the Pioneers’ lead back up to 5 with 2:14 left. He has 12 points.

8:50 p.m.

Clarke drives and makes the layup as Rush makes a layup on the next possession to cut the SHU lead to 62-59 with 2:36 to go.

8:49 p.m.

Foul is called on Watson, sending Square to the line. He hits both to cut the FDU deficit to 60-57 with 3:19 to go.

8:47 p.m.

Watson makes the tough layup and draws the foul as he completes the three-point play. SHU leads 60-55 with 3:51 remaining.

8:45 p.m.

Sixsmith drills a three to give the Pioneers a 57-55 lead with 4:20 to go. He leads SHU with 13 points for the game.

8:44 p.m.

Dutreil tips it in to cut the FDU lead to 55-54 with 4:28 to go in the game.

8:43 p.m.

Thomas and Racine exchange layups as the FDU lead is 55-52 with 4:50 to go in the game.

8:39 p.m.

Loose ball foul called on the court. It is on Williams and that is his fourth, which sends him to the bench with 6:24 to go in the game. 

8:38 p.m.

Sixsmith cuts to the rim and gets the layup to fall to cut FDU’s lead to 2 with 7:20 left in the contest.

8:35 p.m.

Sixsmith lays it in to cut the FDU lead to 51-47 with 7:29 remaining in the game. He has 8 points off the bench for the Pioneers.

8:34 p.m.

Foul called, it is on Williams. That is his third personal, which sends Clarke to the free-throw line. He hits both as Sacred Heart continues to try and hang around, trailing 51-45 with 8:20 left

8:33 p.m.

Powell makes both free throws to extend the FDU lead to 51-43 with 8:35 to go.

8:32 p.m.

Sixsmith finds a wide open Watson who hits a three from the corner. That shot cuts the Knights’ lead down to 6 with 8:59 remaining.

8:31 p.m.

Powell drills the three to extend the FDU lead to 49-40 with 9:12 to go in the game. Powell is up to 10 points in the contest.

8:30 p.m.

Rush drives in and banks in the layup. He has 13 points to lead the way for the Knights as FDU leads 46-40 with 9:48 left.

8:29 p.m.

Thomas gets the tough tip in to go and makes the free throw to convert the three-point play to cut the FDU lead to 44-40 with 10 minutes remaining in the game.

8:28 p.m.

Powell goes one of two from the line, but pushes the Knights’ lead up to 44-37 at the halfway point of the second half.

Square Jr. makes the layup to extend the FDU lead to 43-37 with 10:17 to go in the game.

8:23 p.m.

Williams lays it in to extend the FDU lead to 41-37 with 12:31 to go in the game. He has 7 points.

8:21 p.m.

Radz gets the contested layup to fall. He has 7 points off the bench for the Pioneers. That basket snapped a 13-0 run for FDU as they lead SHU 39-37 with 13:37 left.

8:18 p.m.

Jenkins makes both free throws, he extends the FDU lead to 39-35 with 15:21 to go. He has double digits with 10 points for the Knights.

8:17 p.m.

Coming out of the timeout, Williams’ free throw falls to complete the three-point play. The Knights are on a 12-0 run to open up the second half of play. They now lead the Pioneers 37-35 with 15:30 left in the game.

8:15 p.m.

Williams fights for the offensive rebound and gets the layup to fall through the contact. Foul is on Bryce Johnson as FDU has taken the lead 36-35 with 15:44 left. Williams will have a three-point play opportunity out of the timeout.

8:13 p.m.

Williams goes up and under and gets the layup to go. The Knights trail by just 1 with 17:40 remaining.

8:12 p.m.

Rush is fouled by Spokas. He goes to the line and splits a pair as he is up to 11 points for the game, leading all scorers. FDU trails 35-32 with 18:22 left in the game.

8:10 p.m.

Powell steals it from Clarke and lays it up and in to cut the deficit to 35-31 with 19 minutes to go in the game.

8:08 p.m.

Rush gets the second half scoring started, hitting a three off the assist by Williams. The Knights still trail 35-29 with 19:23 remaining in the game.

7:52 p.m.

Clarke makes both free throws at the end of the first half as SHU has a 35-26 lead at halftime.

FDU shot 9-27 (33.3%) from the field, 3-10 (30%) from three and 5-5 (100%) from the free-throw line. SHU shot 11-27 (40.7%) from the field, 6-13 (46.2%) from three and 7-8 (87.5%) from the free-throw line.

Jenkins leads the Knights with 8 points as Rush added 7 points. Thomas had 7 points as Sixsmith and Dutreil added 6 points each for the Pioneers in the first half.

7:50 p.m.

Rush hits a three with the shot clock running down. He has 7 points for the Knights as they trail 33-26 with 30 seconds remaining in the first half. 

7:48 p.m.

Foul called and it is on Square. That is his third as the foul trouble continues for the Knights with Powell and Rodriguez also having two of their own.

7:47 p.m.

Thomas finds Sixsmith who knocks down the three. 11-0 run by the Pioneers, who have their biggest lead of the night. FDU trails 32-29 with 2 minutes left in the half.

7:46 p.m.

Foul goes on Powell, sending Thomas to the line. He hits them both to push the Sacred Heart lead back up to 29-23 with 2:41 remaining in the first half.

7:44 p.m.

Off the miss by Clarke, Thomas gets the offensive rebound and banks it in. The Pioneers lead is 27-23 with 3:16 left in the half.

7:42 p.m.

Jenkins’ floater is good. He has 8 points, leading the way for FDU. Dutriel responds yet again with a jumper to give SHU back the lead. Back and forth we go as FDU trails 25-23 with 3:40 left in the first half.

7:41 p.m.

Jenkins steals it and finds Rush on the fast break who gets the layup to fall. Dutriel quickly answered with the dunk at the other end to give the Pioneers back the lead, 23-21 with 4:42 to go in the half.

7:39 p.m.

Loose ball foul goes against Rodriguez. That is his second so he heads back to the bench as John Square Jr. checks back in for the Knights.

7:34 p.m.

Rodriguez posts up and gets the hook shot to go as Powell gets the steal and lays it in to cut the SHU lead to 21-19 with 7:11 remaining in the first half.

7:32 p.m.

Powell is called for the foul on the drive by Watson. He hits both attempts from the stripe to push the Pioneers’ lead back up to 21-15 with 8:15 to go in the half.

7:30 p.m.

Powell is fouled by Spokas and hits both from the line. Daniel Rodriguez checks in and finds Racine who nails the jumper. FDU has cut the deficit to 19-15 with 9:16 left in the first half of play.

7:29 p.m.

Radz hits the three. He has 5 early points off the bench for the Pioneers. SHU leads the Knights 19-11 at the halfway point of the first half.

7:25 p.m.

Williams finds an open Jenkins who knocks down the three. FDU still trails the Pioneers 16-11 with 11:12 remaining in the half.

Mike Sixsmith drills a three to extend the SHU lead to 16-8 with 11:56 to go in the half.

7:24 p.m.

Zach Radz gets the floater to fall. The Pioneers lead the Knights 13-8 with 12:48 to go in the half.

7:18 p.m.

Rush gets to the basket and lays it in. That cuts the Sacred Heart lead to 11-8 with 15:22 left in the first half.

7:17 p.m.

Clarke and Spokas knock down threes to put the Pioneers up 11-6 with 16 minutes to go in the half.

7:16 p.m.

Jenkins is fouled shooting a three. He hits all three free throws from the stripe to put FDU up 6-2 with 17:30 remaining in the half.

7:13 p.m.

Dutreil slams it down to open up the scoring for the Pioneers. Racine then hits a three to give the Knights a 3-2 lead with 18 minutes to go in the first half of play.

7:11 p.m.

FDU’s starting lineup is Brandon Rush, Jahlil Jenkins, Brandon Powell, Pier-Olivier Racine and Elyjah Williams. 

SHU’s starting lineup is Aaron Clarke, Alex Watson, Tyler Thomas, Matas Spokas and Cantavio Dutreil.

FDU is 9-14, 8-9 in NEC play while the Pioneers are 8-8 and 8-7 in NEC play.

FDU’s leading scorers heading into the season finale are senior guard Jahlil Jenkins averaging 17.1 PPG and fellow senior forward Elyjah Williams with 14.2 PPG. 

Williams reached 1,000 points for his career this season, becoming the 31st Knight to reach the mark. 

Jenkins reached over 1500 career points, which ranks him 10th on the all-time scoring list in FDU history. 

Both can possibly be playing their final games as Knights tonight, along with senior center Oscar Okeke. 

All three were a part of the 2019 team that won the NEC and reached the NCAA tournament, where they defeated Prairie View A&M in the First Four. 

Each made their mark on the program in their own ways and for that, we salute them for their splendid careers at FDU.
