LIVE BLOG: FDU Men’s Basketball Against Mount Saint Mary’s, Game 2

The Mountaineers dribble out the time and win 74-61 in the second round-robin game.

FDU falls to 8-14, 7-9 NEC as Mount Saint Mary’s improves to 9-10, 8-7 NEC.

FDU shot 11-32 (34.4%) from the field, 4-11 (36.4%) from three and 3-4 (75%) from the free-throw line as the Mountaineers shot 16-25 (64%) from the field, 5-9 (55.6%) from three and 15-20 (75%) from the free-throw line in the second half.

In total, FDU shot 21-63 (33.3%) from the field, 8-24 (33.3%) from three, and 11-12 (91.7%) from the free-throw line as the Mountaineers shot 26-50 (52%) from the field, 5-16 (31.3%) from three, and 17-26 (65.4%) from the free-throw line. 

Jenkins led the Knights with 13 points as Williams added 12 points. Rush added 9 points, as well. Offurum had 22 points for the Mountaineers as Opoku added 16 points. Chong Qui had 14 points and Reaves added 11 points.

FDU will close out the season against Sacred Heart on Thursday, Feb. 25 and Friday, Feb. 26 with both games at 7 p.m at the William H. Pitt Center in Fairfield, CT.

Mount Saint Mary’s will close out the season at Saint Francis University (PA) on Thursday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. at the DeGol Arena in Loretto, PA.

I am Anthony Covino, the sports editor of The FDU Equinox joined by our Editor-in-Chief Elizabeth Scalzo who will be producing today’s live blog and our Student Lifestyle editor Naniyah McCLain who will be updating Twitter throughout the game.

The Knights are coming off a much needed overtime win yesterday against the Mountaineers as they won the first game, 76-71. Preseason All-NEC senior guard Jahlil Jenkins led the Knights with 24 points as sophomore guard Brandon Rush has 15 points, freshman guard Joe Munden Jr. had 14 points and junior guard Brandon Powll had 12 points. Preseason All-NEC senior forward Elyjah Williams had 9 points. 

Junior guard Deandre Thomas led the Mountaineers with 15 points as Preseason All-NEC junior guard Damian Chong Qui, redshirt junior forward Nana Opoku, and junior forward Mezie Offurum all had 11 points each in yesterday’s loss.

Jenkins, Williams, and senior forward Oscar Okeke will be honored before today’s game. 

Jenkins leads the Knights with 17.2 PPG with Rush averaging 14.4 PPG, and Williams averaging 14.3 PPG. 

Chong Qui leads the Mountaineers with 14.9 PPG with Opoku averaging 9.3 PPG.
