LIVE BLOG: FDU Men’s Basketball Against Mt. Saint Mary’s, Game 1

4:25 p.m.

Jenkins scored 24 points for the Knights, leading all scorers. Rush added 15 points with Munden Jr. adding 14 while Powell had 12. 

Thomas led the way for the Mountaineers with 15 points. 

The Knights shot 28-54 (51.9%) from the field, 5-16 (31.3%) from three and 15-22 (68.2%) from the free-throw line. 

The Mountaineers shot 28-69 (40.6%) from the field, 12-29 (41.4%) from three and 3-8 (37.5%) from the free-throw line. 

With the win, FDU improves to 8-13, 7-8 NEC while Mount Saint Mary’s falls to 9-9, 7-7 NEC.

FDU hold on to defeat Mount Saint Mary’s 76-71 in a close game that needed overtime to be decided.

4:12 p.m.

Offurum and Chong Qui’s threes are no good as Rush grabs the rebound and dribbles out the clock to secure an FDU victory.

4:10 p.m.

The Mountaineers are forced to foul, sending Munden Jr. to the stripe with 17 seconds left. He hits both free throws to extend FDU’s lead to 76-71. He is up 14 points for the Knights.

4:08 p.m.

Foul on Munden Jr. sends Opoku to the line, but he is unable to convert. The Knights remain up 74-71 with 1:22 remaining.

4:04 p.m.

It is Jenkins again for the Knights. His jumper falls with 2:13 to go in overtime to push FDU’s lead back to 74-71.

Thomas responds at the other end, nailing a long jumper. The Mountaineers are within one with 2:30 left.

4:02 p.m.

Jenkins’ layup is good to extend the FDU lead to 72-69 with 2:57 to go.

4:00 p.m.

Foul called. It is on Reaves, which sends Powell to the free-throw line. He splits a pair, but gives the Knights the lead 70-69 with 4:45 left in overtime.

3:57 p.m.

We are headed to overtime all tied at 69. Jenkins has led the way for the Knights with 20 points while Thomas has scored 13 for the Mountaineers.

3:56 p.m.

Chong Qui hits a deep three with five seconds left to tie the game at 69. It will be FDU’s ball with four seconds remaining in regulation.

3:54 p.m.

Multiple misses by the Mountaineers leads to a foul by Barton on Williams, but Williams is unable to capitalize at the stripe. The score remains a one possession game with 11 seconds to go in regulation.

3:52 p.m.

Jenkins gets to the basket and gets the layup to fall. He has 20 points for the Knights as they lead 69-66 with just under 30 seconds remaining.

3:51 p.m.

Opoku knocks down a three with 56 seconds to go off the assist by Chong Qui. That shot cuts the FDU lead to 67-66 with 55 seconds remaining in the game.

3:50 p.m.

Williams lays it in with 1:14 remaining. FDU leads 67-63 with under a minute to play.

Opoku answers with a layup off the pass by Chong Qui. FDU still leads 65-63 with two minutes left.

Foul called on Chong Qui sends Jenkins to the line. He hits both free throws to extend the Knights’ lead to 65-61 with 2:20 to go in the game.

3:45 p.m.

Powell drills a three-pointer to put the Knights ahead 63-61 with three minutes remaining. He has 11 points in the game.

Jefferson fouls out with 3:12 left in the game.

Jenkins gets the jumper to fall to cut the Mountaineers’ lead to one. FDU trails 61-60 with 3:37 to go.

Williams gets the layup to fall off the assist by Powell. That shot cuts the Knights’ deficit to 61-58 with 4:48 remaining.

Opoku makes the jumper as Jenkins makes the shot on the other end to cut the Mountaineers lead to 61-56 with 5:27 to go in the game.

Thomas makes the three to extend the Mountaineers lead to 59-54 with 6:32 to go in the game. Thomas has 13 points off the bench.

Rush makes both free throws as Jefferson slams it home as the Mountaineers lead is 56-54 with 7:27 to go in the game.

Williams lays it in to cut the Mountaineers lead to 54-52 with 8:14 remaining in the game.

Powell makes one free throw as Opoku makes the jumper to extend the Mountaineers lead to 30-25 with 1:30 to go in the half.

The Mountaineers leading scorers are Preseason All-NEC junior guard Damian Chong Qui with 15.1 PPG and redshirt junior forward Nana Opoku with 9.2 PPG.
