FDU Four Game Win Streak Comes to an End With 76-72 Loss to Wagner

FDU dropped the first round robin game against Wagner 76-72 at the Spiro Sports Center in Staten Island, New York. Wagner extends their winning streak to four games as FDU’s four game win streak is snapped with the loss. 

FDU fell to 7-10, 6-5 in the NEC while Wagner improved to 5-5, 5-4 in the NEC.

The current NEC standings are:

“We couldn’t find a defense to stop them consistently. We knew it was going to be a very tough game,” FDU head coach Greg Herenda said after the game. “We played zone and made 12 out of 19 threes. They guard and have a lot of heart and so do we. It’s very hard to win on the road in this league. They deserved the win tonight and we didn’t.” 

FDU shot 11-26 (42.31%) from the field, 5-16 (31.25%) from three, and 5-6 (83.33%) from the free-throw line in the first half. FDU shot 13-24 (54.17%) from the field, 3-9 (33.33%) from three, and 11-13 (84.62%) from the free-throw line in the second half. In total, FDU shot 24-50 (48.00%) from the field, 8-25 (32.00%) from three, and 16-19 (84.20%) from the free-throw line.

Wagner shot 15-27 (55.56%) from the field, 6-10 (60.00%) from three, and 1-1 (100.00%) from the free-throw line in the first half. Wagner shot 14-26 (53.85%) from the field, 6-9 (66.67%) from three, and 5-8 (62.50%) from the free-throw line in the second half. In total, FDU shot 29-53 (54.70%) from the field, 12-19 (63.20%) from three, and 6-9 (66.70%) from the free-throw line. 

Sophomore guard Brandon Rush led the Knights with 20 points. Preseason All-NEC senior guard Jahlil Jenkins added 15 points as Preseason All-NEC forward Elyjah Williams added 11 points. Sophomore forward Daniel Rodriguez added a career high 12 points off the bench.

Senior guard Elijah Ford led the Seahawks with 17 points with freshman guard Delonnie Hunt adding 16 points. Senior guard Alex Morales had 12 points as did Senior forward Nigel Jackson who had 12 points off the bench. Senior guard Will Martinez added 11 points off the bench as well. 

FDU will look to bounce back as they will host Wagner for the second round-robin game on Sat. February 13th at 7 p.m. at the Stratis Arena in the Rothman Center in Hackensack, NJ.
