LIVE BLOG: FDU Women’s Basketball Against LIU, Game 1

9:10 p.m.

FDU shot 19-50(38.0%), 3-18(16.7%) from the field, and 5-9(55.6%) from the free-throw line. The Sharks shot 19-56 (33.9%), 3-17(17.6%) from the field, and 11-17(64.7%) from the free-throw line. 

Stanley led FDU with 18 points and DeAngelo with 12 points. Selvaggi also added nine points.

For LIU, Thomas led the team with 18 points. Perkins had 10 points while Williams had seven points.

With a strong offensive game from the Sharks, they defeated FDU 52-46.

8:48 p.m.

DeAngelo makes the layup for FDU  as Sanford makes both attempts at the free-throw line to make the score 52-46 with seven seconds remaining in the game.

8:47 p.m.

Weise heads to the free-throw line to make both attempts to make LIU lead by six making the score 51-44.

8:46 p.m.

Hache heads to the free-throw line for LIU and makes one of two attempts to make the score 49-44 with 38 seconds remaining.

8:45 p.m.

Stanley makes one of two free-throw attempts to make the score 48-44.

8:42 p.m.

Sanford heads to the free-throw line for LIU as she makes one of two attempts making the score 48-43 with 46 second remaining in the game.

Selvaggi heads to the free-throw line and makes both attempts to make the score 47-43.

Stanley makes the jumper for FDU as Williams makes both free attempts making the score 47-41 with 1:15 remaining in the fourth quarter.

The Knights call a timeout with 1:37 remaining in the game as they look to give it their all as they are down by six.

Thomas hits the jumper for LIU and makes the score 41-35 with 5:32 remaining in the fourth quarter as FDU calls a timeout.

Thomas makes the layup as Stanley heads to the free-throw line and makes her only attempt and makes the score 39-35 with the Knights down by five.

DeAngelo heads to the free-throw line and brings the Knights within three and makes it a one possession game making the score 37-34.

Stanley starts off the fourth quarter with the layup as Bell makes a layup of her own and makes the score 37-33 with 9:03 remaining in the fourth quarter.

The Knights look to make the push for the lead as the third quarter ends.

Stanley hits the jumper to get the Knights within four and makes the score 35-31.

Bell hits the jumper for the Sharks as Wilson makes the  layup for FDU making the score 35-29 with 2:04 remaining in the third quarter.

Selvaggi responds with the jumper and gets FDU within six making the score 31-25.

Thomas continues to shine as she makes the three for LIU and makes the score 31-23.

Stanley and Thomas exchange layups as the score is 28-23 with 9:31 in the third quarter.

The Knights hope to finish out strong as they start the third quarter and regain the lead as they are down five with the score being 26-21.

Stanley makes a layup to get the Knights within five making the score 26-21 as the second quarter ends.

Thomas is riding her momentum as she makes a jumper and pushes LIU ahead by seven and makes the score 26-19.

Thomas makes a layup and a free throw for the Sharks as she makes the score 24-19.

DeAngelo makes her way down the court to make the layup and make the score 21-19 with 3:02 remaining in the second quarter.

Mack hits the three and makes the score 19-17 with the Sharks leading by two.

Perkins heads down the court to make the layup with the assist from Williams and makes the score 19-14.

Williams makes the three for LIU and gives them the lead making the score 17-14 with 6:05 remaining in the second quarter.

Sanford heads down the court to make the layup and ties the game and makes the score 14-14.

Wilson and Wiese both make jumpers for their teams and make the score 14-12 as the first quarter ends.

Zoee Hache makes her way down the court to get LIU within two with a jumper and makes the score 12-10.

Perkins responds with a layup as Deangelo makes the three making the score 12-8 with 4:43 remaining.

Selvaggi gives FDU the lead with the three and makes the score 9-6.

Stanley ties the game with the layup making the score 6-6.

Perkins gets LIU ahead with the three to make the score 6-4.

Good evening and welcome to another women’s basketball live blog as the FDU Knights will be taking on the LIU Sharks at home in the Rothman Center in Hackensack, New Jersey for the first of two games in the NEC round-robin. 

I am Jen Malti, the assistant sports editor of The Equinox. Our news editor Jhoana T. Marino- Martinez will be producing the live blog for tonight with our student lifestyle editor Naniyah McClain updating twitter throughout the game. 

FDU is coming in after a loss to the Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers with a score of 68-55 as they look to get back on track with a win against the LIU Sharks. FDU is now 8-5 in the season and 4-4 in the NEC. While the LIU Sharks are 2-6 in the season and 2-6 in the NEC. FDU currently sits in sixth  place while LIU sits in eighth.

For FDU, senior forward Madison Stanley leads the team with 13.5 PPG. Sophomore guard Maria Roters is averaging 11.1 PPG. Junior guard Lindsey Mack is averaging 7.8 PPG and sophomore guard Sierra DeAngelo is averaging 7.7 PPG. 

For LIU, junior guard Brandy Thomas leads the team averaging 14.6 PPG. Junior forward Kiara Bell averages 10.1 PPG while Junior guard Ryan Weise also averages 8.5 PPG.

FDU looks to sweep round-robin against Long Island University on Thursday, February 4.
