President Joe Biden and a group of Republican Senators agreed to hold additional negotiations on coronavirus relief, according to The Hill.
The group met with Biden at the White House for roughly two hours on Monday. The meeting was significantly longer than either side had expected, but it was productive, The Hill continues.
“It was a very good exchange of views,” Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) said outside the White House.
As the two sides look to craft a bipartisan agreement, Biden would not back down from his demand for a robust package.
Biden’s proposed $1.9 trillion stimulus package has generally been met with resistance by Republicans, according to CNet.
Despite the opposition, the meeting was described as “productive” and “substantive,” according to the Hill.
