LIVE BLOG: FDU Men’s Basketball Against Saint Francis University, Game 2

6:05 p.m.

Land steals the ball from Powell and that will close out the game as FDU splits the round-robin with a 90-82 loss against SFU.

FDU falls to 3-9, 2-4 in the NEC while SFU improves to 4-9, 3-6 in the NEC.

FDU shot 15-32 (46.9%) from the field, 3-8 (37.5%) from three, and 11-17 (64.7%) from the free throw line in the second half. In total, FDU shot 28-62 (45.2%) from the field, 7-21 (33.3%) from three, and 19-26 (73.1%) from the free-throw line. 

SFU shot 15-28 (53.6%) from the field, 3-6 (50%) from three, and 17-22 (77.3%) from the free-throw line in the second half. In total SFU shot 32-59 (54.2%) from the field, 7-17 (41.2%) from three, and 19-26 (73.1%) from the free-throw line. 

Jenkins led the Knights with a season high 30 points with Williams adding 14 points. Rush added 12 points and Powell added 10 points. Square Jr. added eight with Baker adding five points and Munden Jr. had three points. 

Dixon-Conover led SFU with 19 points with Thompson had 15 points as well as Giles Jr adding 15 points too. Flagg had 12 points and Laskey had 10 points. Cohen added eight points with Land adding six points and Hargis had five points. 

FDU will look to bounce back at home when they take on first place Bryant on Saturday, Jan. 30th at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 31st at 4 p.m. at the Stratis Arena in the Rothman Center.

Square Jr. makes the layup to tie the game at 40 with 18:56 to go in the game.

Hargis gets the layup to go as SFU has the lead at halftime 40-38. 

FDU shot 13-30 (43.3%) from the field, 4-13 (30.8%) from three, and 8-9 (88.9%) from the free-throw line. SFU shot 17-31 (54.8%) from the free-throw line, 4-11 (36.4%) from the field, and 2-4 (50%) from the free-throw line. 

Jenkins leads the Knights with 14 points with Rush adding nine and Williams adding six at the half.

Thompson leads SFU with nine points with Cohen adding six and Laskey, Hargis, and Giles adding five points each in the half.

Another close games as FDU are down by two going into the second half. FDU needs to limit the scoring in the paint and limit SFU on the rebounds. Both teams have not struggled to score in these two games so far, but both defenses look tired after yesterday’s overtime game.

Flagg gets the layup to go and ties the game back at 38 with 1:23 to go in the half.

Baker drills the three to give FDU a 38-36 lead with two minutes to go in the half.

Thompson gives SFU the lead as his layup is good and draws the foul. He misses the free throw as the SFU lead is now 36-35 with 2:28 to go in the half.

Jenkins and Giles Jr. exchanged layups as the FDU lead is 35-34 with 3:13 to go in the half. 

Powell gets the rebound and lays it in to give FDU the 33-32 lead with 3:44 to go in the half.

Williams lays it in to cut the SFU lead to 32-21, but misses the free throw as the lead for SFU os 32-31 with 4:08 to go in the half.

After drawing the charge, Thompson makes the three on the other end to extend the lead to 32-29 for SFU with 4:32 remaining in the half.

Thompson nails the jumper to tie the game back at 29 with 5:22 to go in the half.

Cohen makes the layup to cut the FDU lead to 29-27 with 5:53 remaining in the half.

The Knights are coming off of their most important win this season with a thrilling 94-92 ovetimer triumph over Saint Francis University (PA) in the first game of the NEC doubleheader. FDU improved to 3-9 with a 2-3 record in the NEC while SFU fell to 3-9, with a 2-6 record in the NEC. 

The current Northeast Conference standings are 1. Bryant, 2. Long Island University, 3. Saint Francis Brooklyn, 4. Mount Saint Mary’s, 5. Sacred Heart, 6. Merrimack, 7. Fairleigh Dickinson University, 8. Wagner, 9. Central Connecticut State University, and 10. Saint Francis University (Pennsylvania).

In last night’s game, Preseason All-NEC senior forward Elyjah Williams tied his career-high with 28 points with Preseason All-NEC senior guard Jahlil Jenkins adding 17. Sophomore guard Brandon Powell added 11 points with freshman guard Joe Munden Jr. and freshman forward John Square Jr. added 10 points each. 

Senior guard Ramiir Dixon-Conover had 20 points for SFU with junior forward Myles Thompson adding 19. Redshirt sophomore guard Bryce Laskey added 16 points with senior forward Mark Flagg adding 12. Reigning NEC rookie-of-the-week freshman guard Maxwell Land had 7 points.

FDU shot 33-68 (48.50%) from the field, 11-21 (52.40%) from three, and 17-27 (63.00%) from the free-throw line.

SFU shot 33-68 (48.50%) from the field, 6-20 (30.00%) from three, and 20–29 (69.00%) from the free throw line.

FDU will look to sweep the doubleheader, that was set to tipoff at 4 p.m. at the DeGol Arena in Loretto, Pa.
