LIVE BLOG: FDU Women’s Basketball Against Merrimack, Game 2

6:01 p.m.

FDU defeats Merrimack 73-64 to sweep the NEC round-robin. FDU improved to 7-4 on the season, 3-3 in the NEC while Merrimack falls to 0-2, 0-2 in the NEC.

FDU shot 24-51 (47.1%) from the field, 10-23 (43.5%) from three and 15-23 (65.2%) from the free-throw line. Merrimack shot 24-53 (45.3%) from the field, 8-18 (44.4%) from three and 8-14 (57.1%) from the free-throw line.

Roters led the Knights with a career high 22 points with Mack adding 18 points in a bounce-back performance. Stanley added 13,  Selvaggi and Conklin added 6 points each as well.

Mager led the Warriors with 19 points with Christian adding 17 points. Decesare added 9 and Casey added 6 for the Warriors.

Roters makes the corner three to extend the lead back to 62-57 with 3 minutes to go in the game.

Christian lays it in to cut the FDU lead to 59-57 with 5 minutes to go in the game. This game is turning into a nail biter for both teams.

Mager makes another three to cut the lead back to 59-53 with 6:50 remaining.

Mager makes a three to cut the FDU lead to 56-50, as Conklin makes a three of her own to extend the lead back to 59-50 with 7:13 remaining in the game.

At the end of the third quarter, FDU leads 56-47 going into the last quarter of play. 

FDU shot 22-42 (52.4%) from the field, 8-18 (44.4%) from three and 4-7 (57.1%) from the free-throw line. Merrimack shot 19-39 (48.7%) from the field, 6-11 (54.5%) from three, and 3-7 (42.9%) from the free-throw line.

Roters leads the Knights with 16 points and Mack has 15. Stanley has 10 points, as well. Christian leads the Warriors with 15 points,  Mager and Decesare have 8 points each.

Selvaggi drills the corner three to extend the FDU lead to 56-47 at the end of the third quarter. This is the Knights biggest lead of the game since the opening quarter.

5:20 p.m.

Carbonell drives to the basket and lays it up and in with the foul to head to the free-throw line again for the Knights. She misses the free throw as the FDU lead is now 53-47 with less than a minute to go in the quarter.

5:18 p.m.

Mack drives and lays it up and with the foul to head to the free-throw line for a three-point play. She makes the free throw to extend the FDU lead to 51-47 with less than 2 minutes to go in the quarter.

5:13 p.m.

Stanley makes the jumper to extend the FDU lead back to 48-45 with 4 minutes to go in the quarter.

5:11 p.m.

Decesare drives to the hoop and lays it up and in with the foul to go to the free-throw line for the three-point play. She makes the free throw to cut the lead to 46-45.

5:10 p.m.

Stanley nails the jumper to extend the lead to 46-42 with 5 minutes to go in the quarter, the Warriors call a timeout. FDU is on a 25-10 run at the moment. 

5:08 p.m.

Roters gets the lay up to go and gets FDU’s first lead since the first half, 44-42 with 5 minutes to go in the quarter.

5:06 p.m.

Roters drives, makes the layup and draws the foul to head to the free-throw line. She misses the free throw, the game is still tied at 42 with 6:50 to go in the quarter.

5:04 p.m.

Stanley lays it up and in to tie the game back at 40 with 7:34 remaining in the quarter.

5:03 p.m.

Abby Conklin ties the game at 38, with 8:44 remaining in the third quarter.

5:02 p.m.

Stanley knocks down the jumper to cut the lead to 37-25 at the start of the second half.

4:47 p.m.

At halftime Merrimack leads 37-33 in a entertaining first half from both teams.

FDU shot 12-28 (42.9%) from the field, 6-12 (50%) from three and 3-4 (75%) from the free-throw line. Merrimack shot 15-25 (60%) from the field, 6-8 (75%) from three and 1-2 (50%) from the free-throw line

Roters and Mack lead the Knights with 12 points each as Christian leads the Warriors with 14. Mager added 8 in the first half, as well.

The Knights have kept this game close as the Warriors are shooting 60% from the field. FDU needs to limit the three-point shooting from the Warriors as more than half of their threes are dropping in the basket.

4:43 p.m.

Roters makes back-to-back layups, the deficit is now 37-33 for FDU with a minute to go in the half.

4:42 p.m.

Roters lays it up and in to cut the Warriors lead to 37-31 with less than 2 minutes to go in the half.

4:39 p.m.

Decesare makes a three on the other end to extend the lead to 35-29. On the next possession Truesdale lays it in to extend the Warriors lead to 37-29 with 3 minutes to go in the half.

4:38 p.m.

Mack makes her fourth three pointer of the game as the lead is now 32-29 for the Warriors, with 4 minutes to go in the half.

4:36 p.m.

Mack makes another three to cut the lead to 32-26 with 5 minutes to go in the half.

4:35 p.m.

Christian lays it up and in again to extend the Warriors lead to 32-21 as DeAngelo makes a layup of her own to cut the lead to 32-23 with 6 minutes to go in the half.

4:31 p.m.

Alana Fursman drills the three to extend the Warriors lead to 29-21 with 8 minutes to go in the half.

4:29 p.m.

Roters makes a three of her own to cut the deficit to 26-21 for FDU with 8:29 to go in the half.

4:28 p.m.

Mager knocks down the corner three to extend the Warriors lead to 26-18 with 9 minutes to go in the half.

4:27 p.m.

At the end of the first quarter, the Warriors lead 21-18. FDU shot 6-14 (42.9%) from the field, 3-6 (50%) from three and 3-4 (75%) from the free-throw line. Merrimack shot 9-12 (75%) from the field, 3-4 (75%) from three and 0-0 (0%) from the free-throw line. 

Mack led the Knights with 6 points with Roters adding 5. Christian led the Warriors with 12 points in the opening quarter.

4:23 p.m.

Celia Carbonell knocks down the three to cut the Warriors lead to 21-17 with 20 seconds remaining in the quarter.

4:22 p.m.

Roters lays it up and in and Mack hits a three on the next possession to cut the Warriors lead to 19-14 with less than 2 minutes remaining in the quarter.

4:21 p.m.

Christian knocks down another three as she has 12 points now in this first quarter. The Warriors lead is now 19-9 with 2:30 remaining in the quarter.

4:15 p.m.

Alyssa Casey gets the friendly bounce on the jumper to extend the Warriors lead to 14-7 with 4:22 remaining in the quarter.

4:11 p.m.

Truesdale lays it up and in, extending the lead to 12-5 with 5:44 remaining in the quarter. The Warriors are on a 9-0 run.

4:10 p.m.

Christian nails another jumper to extend the lead to 10-5, she has seven points on 3-3 shooting in this quarter for the Warriors.

4:10 p.m.

Christian nails the jumper,  the Warriors lead is now 8-5 with 7:48 remaining in the quarter.

4:09 p.m.

Roters lays it up and in as Christian makes a three on the other end as the Warriors take a 6-5 lead with 8:31 to go in the quarter.

4:08 p.m.

Mack and Mager exchange three pointers to open up the game it is 3-3.

4:05 p.m.

Good afternoon and welcome to another women’s basketball live blog. FDU will be taking on Merrimack in the second game of the NEC round-robin in the Stratis Arena at the Rothman Center. I am Anthony Covino, the sports editor of The Equinox joined by our Editor-In-Chief Elizabeth Scalzo who will be producing today’s live blog and our student lifestyle editor Naniyah McClain who will be updating Twitter. 

In FDU’s first game back in a month they defeated Merrimack 60-48 in the first round robin game yesterday. FDU improved to 6-4, 2-3 NEC while the Warriors fell to 0-1, 0-1 NEC in their first game played this season. FDU currently sits sixth in the NEC while Merrimack sits in tenth.

Senior forward Madison Stanley led the Knights with 16 points and sophomore guard Maria Roters added 15 in last night’s win. Sophomore forward Sierra DeAngelo added 12, as well. Stanley leads the Knights with 12.4 PPG followed by DeAngelo with 9.6 PPG, and then Roters with 9.3 PPG

Sophomore guard Diamond Christian led the Warriors with 15 points last night with, senior forward Autumn Truesdale adding 10 in the loss. Senior forward Mayson Kimball added 9 in the loss, as well. Christian currently leads the team with 15.0 PPG followed by Truesdale with 10.0 PPG, and Kimball with 9.0 PPG.

FDU will look to sweep the NEC round-robin as they tip off in 15 minutes in the Stratis Arena in the Rothman Center.
