Happy New Year! We are kicking off our first daily news segment of 2021 with New Jersey’s COVID-19 death rate exceeding 19,000 and the Senate blocking President Donald Trump’s request for a $2,000 stimulus.
Let’s dive right in.
The first coronavirus case report of the new year consisted of 5,541 new cases and 119 confirmed deaths related to COVID-19, according to nj.com.
As of Dec. 31, Bergen County has reported the total number of cases increasing to 47,362 in comparison to the total number of cases being 44,166 on Dec. 23. New Jersey has reported the total number of cases increasing to 479,000 compared to the number 445,138 on Dec. 23.
In other news, the Senate blocked Trump’s push for citizens to receive a $2,000 stimulus even though a bill to do so passed by the House.
The second stimulus increase was intended so that each person would get $2,000 plus $600 per child, according to nj.com.
Instead, millions of Americans will receive a second stimulus of $600 by early next week.
