LIVE BLOG: FDU Women’s Basketball Against NJIT

8:59 p.m.

The Knights sweep the two-game series against non-conference foe NJIT with a 68-54 win tonight. The Knights extend their winning streak to three games and improve to 3-1 on the season with conference play beginning next week on Dec. 15 against Saint Francis at 7 p.m.

Stanley led the way for the Knights in her second game back with 22 points and seven rebounds. Roters added nine with DeAngelo and Wilson adding eight points each.

Squier led the Highlanders with 14 points with Litwinko adding 11 points.

FDU shot 26-50 (52%) from the field, 6-17 (35.3%) from three and 10-20 (50%) from the free-throw line.

NJIT shot 18-54 (33.3%) from the field, 6-18 (33.3%) from three and 12-16 (75%) from the free throw line.

FDU was without Lindsey Mack tonight as she started last night as starting point guard and last year’s NEC Most Improved Player Rachael Niles opted out of the season due to COVID-19 concerns. 

With FDU down two of their starters they are 3-1 on the season heading into conference play.

Stanley splits a pair as Conklin gets a steal on the other end. Scott heads to the free-throw line for FDU with the Knights up 11 with under a minute left.

8:44 p.m.

Roters hits a mid-range jumper to push the Knights’ lead back up to 12. She has nine points. FDU leads the Highlanders 64-52 with just under two minutes remaining.

8:37 p.m.

Stanley hits back to back lay-ups. Her hot shooting night continues as she is up 19 points, leading all scorers. FDU takes their biggest lead of the night.

8:36 p.m.

Conklin hits another 3-pointer. She has six points, all of them coming in the final quarter.

Stanley extends the lead to ten, hitting another jumper. The Knights lead 58-48 with just under five minutes remaining in the game.

8:29 p.m.

Abby Conklin nails a three to give FDU a 51-48 lead as Stanley hits a jumper to extend the lead to 53-48 with eight minutes remaining.

8:23 p.m.

That’s the end of the third quarter. The Knights lead 46-45 with Stanley leading the Knights with nine as DeAngelo and Wilson have eight points each.

Litwinko leads NJIT with 11 points as Squier has 10 in this game.

8:16 p.m.

DeAngelo hits a tough, contested lay-up to give FDU the lead, 39-38. She is up to eight points with 4:26 left in the third quarter.

8:10 p.m.

Chloe Wilson ties the game at 36 as NJIT responds with a lay-up to take the lead back, 38-36.

8:09 p.m.

Back to back baskets by FDU, a layup by Carbonell and a jumper by Crystian. The Knights have pulled back within one point with 6:31 left in the third quarter.

8:07 p.m.

Dani Evans banks in a 3-pointer to extend the NJIT lead to five, 34-29 Highlanders.

8:02 p.m.

Madison Stanley opens up the second-half scoring for the Knights, nailing a long jumper to tie the game at 29.

7:50 p.m.

FDU heads into halftime down two 29-27 in a back and forth game so far.

Roters leads the Knights with seven as DeAngelo added six in the first half.

Litwinko leads NJIT with seven as Squier added six as well in the first half.

FDU shot 10-26 (38.5%) from the field, 2-8 (25%) from three and 5-8 (62.5%) from the free-throw line.

NJIT shot 10-29 (34.5%) from the field, 4-11 (36.4%) from three and 5-6 (83.3%) from the free throw line.

Both teams have shot better in this game compared to last night’s game as FDU has kept it close so far in the second half.

7:43 p.m.

DeAngelo drills the jumper as FDU pulls within two, 26-24 with less than a minute remaining in the half.

7:37 p.m.

NJIT scores to pull within one, 20-19 as on the next possession, they take the lead for the first time tonight, 21-20.

7:25 p.m.

Scott lays it up to give FDU a 15-13 lead going into the second quarter. Roters and Stanley lead with five points each. Squier leads the Highlanders with four.

7:19 p.m.

Roters hits the three as FDU extends the lead to 13-8. Roters has eight points so far.

7:08 p.m.

Stanley drills the mid-range jumper as FDU is out to an early 5-0 lead in the first three minutes.

7:05 p.m.

FDU’s starting lineup is Celia Carbonell, Devyn Scott, Sierra DeAngelo, Maria Roters and Madison Stanley. 

NJIT’s starting lineup is Ellyn Stoll, Kenna Squier, Maria Fux, Lyzi Litwinko and Dani Evan.
