EDITOR’S NOTE: Changes on the Editorial Board

By Elizabeth Scalzo

Editor-in-Chief

Congratulations to The Equinox staffers who are joining our editorial board.

Naniyah McClain takes the role of student lifestyle editor. Jen Malti moves to assistant sports editor and Chloe Colmenares takes on the new role of social media editor.

These staffers have excelled in their previous duties and now take on additional leadership and management responsibilities.

McClain, a junior communication major from Elizabeth, NJ, started at The Equinox on the social media team. She runs our Twitter account and has written many stories since joining a few months ago in the summer.

McClain says the work of editing the student lifestyle section is important to her: “This covers all of the organizations and activities on campus that have shaped me into the student I am today.”

McClain says Project #FDUKnighted, will help other students to break out of their shells by becoming more involved on campus.

As student lifestyle editor, she will also manage the execution of our signature Project #FDUKnighted, over winter break. This project will work with clubs and organizations to promote campus involvement while online. There will be an article detailing the participating clubs, an Instagram Live mini series, talking to club members and a new events page on The Equinox website.

Malti, a junior communication major from Jersey City, NJ, worked as a sports writer when she first joined The Equinox in 2019 and, after a short hiatus, returned to that role in September. She contributes sports coverage and to our innovative basketball live blogs.

“The live blogs are fun and exciting,” she said. “They help our readers stay engaged and are a great way to keep people updated even during a global pandemic.”

Now that the NEC has a plan to bring teams back to competition in spring 2021, Malti said she is looking forward to working with Sports Editor Anthony Covino and sports staffer Charles Elmo to cover the many games and stories of the spring season.

“I am excited to see our athletes back in action and doing what they work hard for,” she said. “The world needs sports in a time like this, it will be fun to see the athletes back in their element and for us to be back in ours, covering their games.”

Colmenares, a sophomore communication major from Paramus, NJ, is our first social media editor. She joined The Equinox this summer, just like Naniyah, with an interest in working on social media.

She has run our Instagram and Facebook accounts, and has added reporting to her portfolio. She also manages our analytics and updates the team at the weekly meeting on the social media stats for the week.

Colmenares’s favorite part about running social media is, “Watching the audience grow and show engagement as times goes on. I’ve been proud of our staff for working hard to share posts and showing each other support on their stories.”

Congratulations to these ladies! I know I can’t wait to see everything you do as leaders on our talented and hardworking Equinox team.
