LIVE BLOG: FDU Men’s Basketball Against Central Connecticut State

9:12 p.m.

FDU gets its fifth straight loss this season, falling to Central Connecticut at home, 94-87 in the NEC opener. The Knights will get a second shot as they face Central Connecticut State tomorrow at 4 p.m. in the NEC round-robin play schedule.

While the Knights lost, Jenkins provided a much needed performance to hopefully improve upon throughout the season. 

Williams and Jenkins led the Knights with 24 points each with Munden Jr. adding 16 off the bench. 

FDU shot 29-63 (46%) from the field, 8-26 (30.8%) from the three-point line and 21-25 (84%) from the free-throw line. 

Outlaw led the Blue Devils with 21 points as Krishnan added 17. Wilson added 11 and Tre Mitchell had 10 points off the bench. 

CCSU shot 37-58 (63.8%) from the field, 10-15 (66.7%) from the three-point line and 10-18 (55.6%) from the free-throw line.

Elsewhere in the NEC, Bryant beat St. Francis Brooklyn, 101-82, and Mt. St. Mary’s beat Saint Francis, 75-57.

8:57 p.m.

FDU is down 90-84 with less than a minute remaining in the game, FDU’s defense has struggled in this game

8:49 p.m.

Jenkins makes his way to the free-throw line with FDU down 86-82.

8:43 p.m.

Williams heads to the free-throw line to convert the three point play as FDU is down 86-78 with 4:18 remaining.

8:36 p.m.

CCSU is starting to pull away as they lead 81-72 with 7:24 remaining in the game. Williams and Jenkins both have 17 points in the game as Munden Jr. has 16. 

Outlaw leads the Blue Devils with 19 points and Krishnan has added 17 points.

8:27 p.m.

CCSU extends its lead to 68-61 with 11:21 remaining in the game as FDU is having a tough time defending CCSU from the three-point line.

8:26 p.m.

Central Connecticut still holds its lead with 64 with FDU’s defense tiring in the second half.

8:24 p.m.

Jenkins makes both free-throws as the lead is cut to 61-59 with 13 minutes remaining in the game.

8:23 p.m.

CCSU has extended its lead to 61-57 with 13:07 remaining in the game with Jenkins and Williams leading the Knights with 15 points each as Jenkins heads to the line for two free throws.

8:14 p.m.

CCSU has its largest lead of the game and is up 55-49 with 16:33 remaining.

8:09 p.m.

With the second half beginning, Fairleigh Dickinson needs to take a more aggressive push in order to capitalize on scoring to hold a lead.

8:03 p.m.

In other games tonight, Wagner was at non-conference Seton Hall and lost 78-45 in its opener, Later games had Bryant at St. Francis (Brooklyn) and Mount St. Mary’s hosting St. Francis. The other schedule men’s game in the league tonight, Sacred Heart at NJIT, was postponed. 

As of the half for FDU and CCSU, Bryant leads Saint Francis (Brooklyn) 58-38 and Mount Saint Mary’s leads Saint Francis 36-26.

8:00 p.m.

Munden Jr. leads the Knights with 11, Williams has 10 with Baker adding eight. Jenkins has seven as his shooting struggles continue as he is 2-7 from the field. 

FDU shot 13-31 (41.9%) from the field, 5-13 (38.5%) from three and 11-12 (91.7%) from the free-throw line. 

Outlaw leads CCSU with 11, Krishnan has 9, Wilson added 7, and Myles Baker has 6 points off the bench.

CCSU shot 18-28 (64.3%) from the field, 5-9 (55.6%) from three, and 5-7 (71.4%) from the free-throw line.

7:53 p.m.

Central Connecticut State is leading 46-42 at the end of the first half. 

With the first half ending, the game has been a tight squeeze between both teams with leads shifting back and forth.

7:51 p.m.

CCSU is currently on a 7-2 run with 17 seconds remaining in the half as they regain the lead and are up 46-42.

7:47 p.m.

FDU regains the lead with 2:13 remaining in the first half as they are up 40-39.

7:42 p.m.

CCSU takes the lead, 37-36 with 4:17 remaining in the first half, as audio difficulties still continue from NEC Front Row.

7:34 p.m.

Munden Jr. hits the corner three to give FDU a 31-26 lead with 8:02 remaining in the first half. Munden Jr. has 11 points and is a perfect 3-3 from three.

7:33 p.m.

Both teams exchange three pointers as CCSU cuts the lead to 28-26 with 9:25 remaining in the first half.

7:30 p.m.

Munden Jr. makes both free throws to extend the Knights lead to 22-18 with 10:57 remaining in the first half. 

Joe Munden Jr. draws the foul for the Knights and will go to the line for two free throws.

7:26 p.m.

Williams makes both free throws and extends the lead to three, 18-15. Williams draws the foul and will shoot two with FDU up 16-15.

7:16 p.m.

The first five minutes have been a back and forth affair as CCSU has a 15-14 lead.

7:15 p.m.

Baker knocks in 1 of 2 of his free throws as Olivier-Racine takes the lead on a tip-in to give FDU a 7-6 lead.

7:13 p.m.

The game is underway as NEC Front Row is having audio difficulties, but CCSU is off to a 6-4 lead in the first minutes of the game.

7:10 p.m.

Tonight’s starting lineup for the Knights is Jahlil Jenkins, Brandon Rush, Callum Baker, Elyjah Williams and Pier Olivier-Racine. 

CCSU’s starting lineup is Greg Outlaw, Ian Krishnan, Jamir Reed, Xavier Wilson and Nigel Scantlebury.
Also, this past week FDU freshman Joe Munden Jr. was named the NEC Rookie-of-the-Week, following Olivier-Racine’s rookie-of-the-week honors the previous week.

7:03 p.m.

Both teams are looking for their first win.

Greg Outlaw is the leading scorer for the Blue Devils, averaging 10.5 PPG in the first three games of the season, while Brandon Rush is the leading scorer for the Knights with 16.3 PPG. Jahlil Jenkins follows with 13.3 PPG and Elyjah Williams is averaging 13 PPG.

The women’s basketball game at Fordham was cancelled late this afternoon due to COVID-19 protocols.
