Today is the first day of The Equinox’s daily news update. Each morning at 10 a.m. there will be an update about the news at FDU, Bergen County and New Jersey.
Today marks the official start of FDU’s winter session with virtual classes scheduled to run until January 20, 2021. FDU is offering special tuition savings as well.
The savings include 50% off all undergraduate tuition for all winter classes taken in session I and II where students can earn up to 6 credits and save $100 for every graduate credit taken through the winter session as well.
FDU basketball opened up its season for both men’s and women’s basketball last week. The men’s team opened with losses to Quinnipiac, 84-66, and Rutgers, 96-75.
The women’s team opener at Manhattan was cancelled due COVID-19 protocols. They opened up their season at home with a loss to St. Johns, 70-44.
The men’s team will look to get the first win of the season, at Hofstra tonight at 7 p.m., while the women have their next game at Binghamton University on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
As of today, there are a total of 34,833 COVID-19 cases compared to 31,031 on Saturday. There were 3,000 new COVID-19 cases in Bergen County where the state of New Jersey has 336,000 total cases now.
In the past few weeks, the curve has been going up each day with at least 2,000 or more new cases reported compared to the cases only going up 200 cases or more a day in months before.
In efforts to reduce the spread of the pandemic, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy announced new COVID-19 restrictions where outdoor gatherings are now limited to 25 people, according to NJ.com.
He also announced all indoor high school sports and youth sports are suspended as of now until January.
