FDU’s COVID-19 update reveals more cases for on and off-campus students.

Two Florham students have tested positive, Since last week, the Florham campus has an additional positive case as reported previously. No Metro resident students have tested positive.

Seven off-campus students have tested positive — 5 from Florham campus, 2 from Metro.

Additionally, one faculty/staff member has tested positive.

The update on the number of COVID-19 cases on both New Jersey campuses, which included self-reported cases from off-campus students, was sent via email to the FDU community this morning.

These updates will come out weekly via email and, if there is an outbreak, the FDU community can expect an immediate update, President Christopher Capuano told The Equinox in an interview today.

“No news is good news in this case,” Capuano said.

There are currently 131 negative tests between both campuses, FDU reports.

“FDU is conducting both surveillance testing of random students on campus as well as symptomatic testing when necessary. Students who test positive are required to isolate. Those who have been in direct contact with someone who has tested positive are directly notified and required to quarantine per CDC guidelines,” the email said.

“We are also closely monitoring those students who are residing off campus; however we will mostly confine our reporting to those students who live in the county in which campus is based,” FDU said in the email. “When positive cases emerge involving off-campus students who may have been on campus, we are following up with contact tracing.”

If students continue to follow the guidelines set in place, the spread of COVID-19 should stay minimal, Capuano said.
