There is no official guide on how dining operations will function this upcoming fall semester, yet.
The Equinox’s most recent roundtable in the COVID-19 series focused on campus dining.
Riverside Cafe, Dickinson Cafe, and the Student Union Building cafeteria are the only three dining options available on campus, and are all known for their lounging areas where students hang out in between classes.
“Part of the challenge is that we are attempting to plan for multiple scenarios depending on what stage of recovery our state is in and what is permissible at the time,” said Angelo Carfagna, the Associate VP of Communications, in an email to The Equinox. “We will provide more details as soon as plans are finalized.”
While social distancing and wearing a mask and/or face covering is a given, dining services will need more precautionary measures to ensure a limited number of people indoors.
Boston University Dining Services has put a halt to dine-in services, including residence dining rooms, cafes, and restaurants. Guests can only use designated entrance and exit pathways.
All meals are served in disposable, take-out containers with single-use condiments. Self-serve stations remain fully paused.
Western Michigan University, on the other hand, has transitioned its dining services to Grab’n Go service only to reduce wait times and contact surfaces between guests.
In Monmouth University’s Fall 2020 Reopening Plan for Gourmet Dining,
Monmouth highlights the multi-tier approach that will be taken for contactless pick up. Customers will place their orders via their Transact (Blackboard) app, the current meal plan management system deployed at the university.
How FDU plans on enforcing social distancing and other precautionary measures is still to come.
