Women’s Basketball Defeats Wagner 57-53 in Home Finale

The Knights defeated Wagner 57-53 in the home season finale on Monday, March 2. The Knights improved to 11-17 with a 8-9 record in the NEC, while Wagner fell to 10-18 with a 6-11 record in the NEC.

FDU currently sits in fifth in the NEC standings while Wagner sits ninth in the conference standings.

Senior Lauren Francillon led the way for the Knights with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman guard Maria Roters added 12 points. 

FDU shot 21-47 (44.7%) from the field, 6-15 (40%) from three, and 9-15 (60%) from the free-throw line. 

Sophomore forward Emilija Krista Grava led the way for the Seahawks with 23 points. Junior guard/forward Khaleah Edwards added 9 points.

Wagner shot 19-64 (29.7%) from the field, 4-20 (20%) from three, and 11-16 (68.8%) from the free-throw line.

Fairleigh Dickinson, Robert Morris, Mount Saint Mary’s, Saint Francis University, Sacred Heart, Bryant, Long Island University, and Wagner are the eight teams that have qualified for the 2020 NEC Tournament with Merrimack sitting out its first D1 season, and Saint Francis Brooklyn and Central Connecticut State missing out this year.

FDU sits as the No. 4 seed currently and Wagner sits as the No. 8 seed.

FDU will play its last regular season game when they travel to play Mount Saint Mary’s on Thursday, March 5 at 7 p.m. 

The Knights have one last opportunity this season to improve their seeding in the conference tournament which tips off March 9.
