Women’s Basketball clinch NEC Tournament Spot in 55-47 Loss to Bryant

FDU clinched a spot in the 2020 NEC Tournament in their 55-47 loss to Bryant on Saturday, Feb. 29. 

The Knights fall to 10-17 with a 7-9 record in the NEC, while Bryant improves to 9-18 with 7-9 record in the NEC. 

Senior forward Lauren Francillon led the way for the Knights with 13 rebounds and freshman forward Sierra DeAngelo added 11 points. 

The Knights shot 19-58 (32.8%) from the field, 5-22 (22.7%) from three, and 4-5 (80%) from the free-throw line. 

Freshman guard Nicole Gallagher led the way for the Bulldogs with 13 points and senior guard/forward Sydney Holloway recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. 

The Bulldogs shot 17-54 (31.5%) from the field, 1-10 (10%) from three, and 20-25 (80%) from the free-throw line. 

This is the Knight’s sixth consecutive NEC Tournament berth and the first for new head coach Angelika Szumilo. They now have to wait for other results around the league to determine their opponent in the quarterfinals.

The Knights will next host Wagner at home on Monday, March 2 at 7 p.m., while Bryant will host Sacred Heart at the same time.
