The FDU women’s basketball team defeated the Wagner Seahawks 62-61 on the road in a close battle on Monday night.

The Knights improved to 8-13 with a 5-5 record in the NEC, while Wagner falls to 7-13 with a 3-6 record in the NEC.

Freshman guard Aniya Bell led the way for the Knights with 14 points, freshman guard Maria Roters had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, and senior forward Lauren Francillon had 12 points.

The Knights shot 24-62 (38.7%) from the field, 5-27 (18.5%) from three-point range, and 9-12 (75%) from the free throw line.

The Seahawks shot 22-60 (36.7%) from the field, 3-12 (25%) from three-point range, and 14-15 (93.3%) from the free throw line.

The Knights are relying on their freshman class during NEC play as senior forwards Charee Osborne and Jenna Clark, senior guard Elise Graham, and junior forward Madison Stanley all recover from injuries. If the Knights are able to get healthy as conference play winds down, they will try to shock the world in the NEC tournament.

The Knights will look to stay on the winning course as they will host Merrimack on Monday, Feb. 10.
