The FDU Knights fell to the LIU Sharks on the road 68-63 on Saturday, Jan. 11. This was LIU’s first conference win of the season and they snapped a six game losing streak in the process.
With the loss the Knights are now 5-10 on the season, and 2-2 in conference. LIU got their second win of the season and improved to 2-12 with a 1-2 record in the NEC.
Junior forward Madison Stanley was the leading scorer for the Knights with 21 points. Senior forward Lauren Francillon added 10 points of her own in the game.
FDU shot 25-64 (39.1%) from the field, 6-23 (26.1%) from three, and 7-11 (63.6%) from the free throw line.
The leading scorer for the Sharks was sophomore guard Brandy Thomas who had 18 points. Junior forward Mia Perkins, junior guard Jeydah Johnson, and sophomore guard Ryan Weise added 11 points a piece as well.
LIU shot 23-54 (42.6%) from the field, 8-17 (47.1%) from three, and 14-20 (70%) from the free throw line.
The Knights started the game off sluggishly as they found themselves down 10, 38-28, after the game’s first 20 minutes. The Knights shot 37% from the field and 18% from deep in the first half of the contest.
Stanley paced the Knights with the 10 points in the first half.
Thomas led the Sharks with 15 points in the first half.
FDU will look to bounce back as they host Sacred Heart on Monday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m., which will be televised live on SNY.
LIU will look to extend their winning streak when they play Central Connecticut State on Monday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m.
