FDU’s Struggles Continue In 84-70 Loss to LIU

FDU lost its second game in a row, this time to the LIU Sharks 84-70 on Saturday, January 11.

FDU falls to 3-12 on the season with a 1-3 record in the NEC, while LIU improves to 7-9 with a 2-1 record in the NEC.

LIU started out on a 18-4 run within the opening 8 minutes of the first half. FDU had no answers for LIU’s offense to start the game.

LIU led 46-30 at halftime as guard/forward Raiquan Clark, their preseason All-NEC redshirt senior, shot 7-10 in the first half and had 14 points and 6 rebounds at the end of the first half. A quiet second half saw Clark only add 5 more points to his statline. 

FDU’s leading scorer was senior forward Kaleb Bishop who had 17 points. Sophomore guard Brandon Powell scored a career high 14 points. Redshirt junior guard Xzavier Malone-Key had 12 points. Junior guard Jahlil Jenkins and junior forward Elyjah Williams both added 11 points. 

FDU shot 27-60 (45%) from the field, 7-26 (26.9%) from three, and 9-13 (69.2%) from the free throw line.

The Sharks leading scorer was senior guard Jashaun Agosto who had 20 points. Sophomore guard Jermaine Jackson Jr. had 14 points and redshirt sophomore guard Virshon Cotton had 12 points. 

LIU shot 32-64 (50%) from the field, 11-29 (37.9%) from three, and 9-13 (69.2%) from the free throw line.

FDU will look to get back in the win column when they host Saint Francis University on Wednesday, January 15 at 5 p.m., which will be televised live on ESPNU. The first 500 fans will receive a free FDU winter hat. 

LIU will look to extend their winning streak to three games as they head home to play Saint Francis Brooklyn on Wednesday, January 15th at 7 p.m. The game will be televised live on SNY.
