On October 1, the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) released its 2019-2020 preseason top 25 coaches poll, and the Knights were ranked ninth overall on the list. The Knights finished tied for ninth in last year’s bowling season and are now the same rank as they finished, and will keep their spot amongst the NCAA top ten ranking programs in the 18th season. FDU was the highest ranked NEC team, taking 958 votes which gave them that ninth place spot. Vanderblit secured the top ranking, followed by McKendree in second, and defending champion Stephen F. Austin ranked number three. Nebraska is in fourth, Sam Houston State in fifth, Arkansas State in sixth, Maryland-Eastern Shore in seventh and North Carolina A&T in eighth were the eight teams that finished ahead of the Knights in the preseason rankings. The team also hired a new assistant coach, Jackie Evans.
