(HACKENSACK) – The FDU Softball team improved their record with two wins over the St. Peter’s Peacocks Tuesday, and now sit at 7-16 for the season.

The FDU Knights were off to a fast start during their second of six home games. This was the second game of a double header against the Peacocks. With a single

by Logan Kolehmainen and Madison Emerson in the bottom of the first, freshman pitcher Abby England was able to bat them in with her center eld single. With two runs in the first, the Knights were out to a 2-0 lead.

England’s stellar pitching performance held the Peacock’s offense in check, allowing only four hits and striking out five.

Emerson struck again in the bottom of the second

with a run-scoring single that brought Amber VanderGoot home.

The Knights offense didn’t let up. In the bottom of the third, second baseman Holly Mercier doubled down the left eld line. Mercier was able to score the fourth run for the Knights in a first-and- third sacrifice situation.

The Knights lead was cut in half in the top of the fourth when Peacock Theamaris Ramirez blasted a two-run home run. But the Knights were able to stop the bleeding and get the next three of four batters out.

Sophomore slugger Madison Emerson topped the team leaders in total hits on the season when she singled to left eld during the bottom of the fourth, giving her 19 hits total for the season.

The Knights had a slight hiccup in the bottom of the sixth inning when Freshman catcher Logan Kolehmainen  took a tumble running down to first base. The California native was replaced by pinch- runner Brianna DeLeon. The injury was short-lived, as Kolehmainen was back behind the plate in the top of the seventh.

The Knights held on for a 4-2 win. The Softball team is back in action again at home on Friday, March 30 for their first NEC game of the season.
