Letter to the Editor – Robert Valenti

Robert Valenti, Associate Vice President of Auxillary Services

Dear Editor,

Thank you for your pleasant response to my concerns. Perhaps in a future article you can talk about the Fairleigh1Card and how it enhances the student experience at FDU both on and off campus for resident students as well as commuters.

On the positive side of things I have some very exciting news. Our very own Executive Chef from Gourmet Dining, Mike Blackwell just won the Mid-Atlantic Region’s Culinary Challenge for Colleges and Universities. I had the privilege of accompanying Chef Mike at the National Association of College and University Food Services (NACUFS) regional conference in Valley Forge, PA this weekend.

Chef Mike of FDU beat out nine other qualifying chefs in our region from, Rutgers University, Millersville University, Virginia Tech, University of Richmond, Penn State University, Gettysburg College, Messiah College, Monmouth University and even Princeton University! Second place went to Chef Eric Weatherspoon from Monmouth who just happened to be another Gourmet Dining Chef. Chef Mike and I will now be off to the National Culinary Challenge held in mid-July. Please join me in spreading the word and congratulating him and wishing him luck in the national competition. This is outstanding exposure for FDU.

We should all be very PROUD. This speaks to the message I try to get across to our student body to take immense pride in what we offer here at FDU. It would be refreshing if we focused on the many positive aspects of our services here at the university instead of highlighting the headline grabbers of negativity. We live here, we work here, we should let everyone know what a wonderful place this is and work together to promote our good points as well as constructively strive together to improve our weaknesses.

Thank you again for the opportunity to speak with you.
